The short answer
Craft a Bone Pickaxe at a Crafting Table with 8 Animal Bone, 6 Ash Logs and 4 Leather. It can mine copper and tin deposits.
Before you start
- Crafting Table
- A way to obtain animal materials and process leather
Gather the materials in the right order
- Collect Ash Logs from fallen logs or ash trees. Keep the pickaxe’s six logs separate from your station budget.
- Gather Animal Bone and animal hides from wildlife. A ranged option makes fleeing animals easier to approach than a long melee chase.
- Build the Spinning Wheel, then process Flax into Coarse Thread. The Tannery requires two thread alongside logs and bones.
- At the Tannery, turn Animal Hide into Leather. One hide makes one leather; alternatively, three hide scraps make one leather. Make four leather for the pickaxe.
- Return to the Crafting Table with all three ingredients. Craft the pickaxe, then plan an ore trip with room to carry the return haul.
If the recipe is missing
Pick up each ingredient yourself and check the correct station. A material stored in a shared chest is a different question from whether your character has discovered it. MetaForge lists Animal Bone, Ash Logs and Leather as the discoveries associated with this tool.
Do not confuse the pickaxe with a logging axe. This upgrade solves the copper-and-tin mining bottleneck; it does not establish that every wood type is now harvestable.
