Your first zoo: a prelaunch planning checklist

Know what to check before committing to a first-zoo plan.

Prelaunch edition · framework guidance · no verified game values · Evidence scope ↓ · Last reviewed

Quick answer

This edition has no verified first-zoo build order or game values. When you have access to the game, start with any available tutorial, record your build and mode, and check the requirements and costs it shows before building. Use this checklist to collect evidence; published animal categories and announced systems can guide a shortlist, while exact care and operating values still require checks.

ConfirmedThis edition includes sourced prelaunch animal profiles. Numerical care requirements, costs, compatibility and other detailed gameplay records have not been verified in a game build.ConfirmedPlanet Zoo (2019) values, species and mechanics do not automatically apply to Planet Zoo 2.

Step zero: the verification habit

Use current official documentation and, when available, your own gameplay observations to check requirements. Record the build, platform and mode alongside each observation. This checklist suggests questions to investigate; it does not establish which systems exist or how they work.

What to check when you can play

  1. Record the game build, platform and mode. Follow any available introductory objectives and note what they require.
  2. List the available species and any requirements or costs the game displays. Leave missing values unknown.
  3. Check which enclosure, path, viewing and staff-access rules apply before committing to a layout.
  4. If shops or services are available, record their construction and running costs. Test income before recommending a placement or claiming a profit.
  5. Record any displayed animal needs and the actions that change them. Keep observations separate from assumptions about the original game.
  6. Save your notes and screenshots, then use the planning tools below with values you have checked in your build.

Avoid unsupported assumptions

  • Do not copy a Planet Zoo (2019) habitat layout and assume its space values still apply.
  • Do not treat an untested shop placement or staffing plan as a route to profit.
  • Do not assume guest satisfaction or staff coverage behaves as it did in the original game.
  • If a tutorial is available, follow its current instructions and record any conflicts with this checklist.

Organize your planning notes

You can group notes under animals, visitors and operations, adding only the systems you observe. Use the habitat and budget tools to organize your inputs. These are planning aids; they do not supply verified Planet Zoo 2 requirements or certify that a layout works.

When something goes wrong

My zoo is losing money.

If the game displays a financial breakdown, record the costs and income before changing the plan. This edition has no tested profitable setup; the zoo-budget tool can organize your own figures.

An animal appears stressed or unhappy.

Record the exact warning and any explanation the game provides. This edition has no verified welfare thresholds or remedies. Include your build and a screenshot in a correction report.

A step does not match the game I am playing.

Follow the current game instructions. Record which checklist item does not apply, along with the build, platform and mode, and submit it through the corrections page.
