The short answer
Siege has two objective phases. Repair settlements to capture them in Retake the Countryside. Then stand near guard towers with your heroes to capture them in Siegebreaker. Keep at least one settlement or tower under your control as the active quest requires.
Before you start
- The Last Days of Lordaeron, Chapter 3: Siege, after Treachery.
- Check the active objective: countryside repairs and city towers use different capture rules.
- The walkthrough follows launch-day footage; exact build, difficulty and optional rewards were not established.
1. Repair the settlements to capture them Reveal solution / story details
At 4:40 the active quest is Retake the Countryside. It tells you to repair all settlements to capture them and to keep one settlement under your control. Fighting nearby enemies alone does not complete the repair requirement.
- Reach the Lumber Mill and complete its repair objective. Once captured, it can train Peasants; the game shows this tutorial message in the recording.
- Use Peasants to repair the remaining settlements. Clear the area around a repair target first so workers can finish the job.
- Check the quest list after each repair. Keep one settlement under your control while advancing, as the quest explicitly requires.

2. Use the buildings you reclaim Reveal solution / story details
Ilastar Songbreeze becomes available as a supporting spellcaster during this phase. The recording later captures the Stables and shows Knight recruitment at 14:44. Captured buildings matter because they expand the force you can field.
- Inspect each captured building’s available units and your current food capacity before ordering replacements.
- Use the Lumber Mill for additional Peasants when repair coverage is the problem. Use the Stables for Knights once the building is yours.
- Keep Garek and Ilastar with a viable fighting force as you finish the countryside objectives. Complete the transition briefing before applying the tower instructions below.

3. Capture the guard towers with your heroes Reveal solution / story details
At 16:40 the quest changes to Siegebreaker. It requires control of all guard towers, at least one tower retained, and both Garek and Ilastar alive. The tutorial specifies that heroes must stay near a tower to capture it.
- Read the four counters in the Control Points panel: North Western, South Western, South Eastern and North Eastern Tower. Use them with the minimap to decide where your force is needed.
- Clear pressure around a target, bring your heroes close to the tower and remain there while the control state changes. Ordinary troops nearby are not a substitute for the hero instruction.
- Check control before moving on. Continue around the remaining towers while preserving the tower you already hold. The panel shows a changing battle, not a permanent checklist.

4. Recover ground before you lose the foothold Reveal solution / story details
The source displays a lost-tower warning at 26:31 and tells the player to take the tower back. A captured tower can be contested again; an earlier capture is not proof that the final condition is still satisfied.
- When a loss warning appears, identify the affected tower in the Control Points panel. Redirect your force if the remaining foothold is at risk.
- Return with the heroes and repeat the capture process. Keep Garek and Ilastar alive while contesting the point.
- Recheck all four towers instead of assuming earlier captures still count. Take the remaining towers and allow the post-battle briefing to play when the objective resolves. The recording reaches that briefing by 28:45.
If the objective will not complete Reveal solution / story details
| Problem | Likely requirement to check |
|---|---|
| A settlement is cleared but not captured | Send a Peasant to complete the repair requirement. |
| You cannot replace workers | Inspect the captured Lumber Mill’s Peasant training option. |
| A guard tower will not change control | Bring the heroes close and keep them there while capture progresses. |
| You previously visited every tower but the quest remains active | Check current control; the enemy can take towers back. |
| A tower is lost while you attack another | Recover a foothold and recheck the requirement to retain at least one tower. |
Footage and limits
Sources open at 4:40 for settlement repairs, 16:40 for the tower quest and 26:31 for recovery. The Stables at 14:44 and the post-battle briefing at 28:45 were also inspected. These are timestamps in one recording, not expected clear times.
The guide verifies the repair and hero-proximity capture rules. It does not specify an optimal build order, capture duration, allied wave interval, all recruitment unlocks, rewards or a Hard-mode army composition.
