Before you start
- Enter Dowdun Reach during Black Knight's Fortress.
- Bring ranged attacks for ravens, food and a way to cast Windstep for the roof.
1. Start with Zanik or a corrupted raven
- Speak to Zanik beneath The Approach, or loot a corrupted essence sample from a corrupted raven. Both routes lead to Zanik's request.
- Hunt the corrupted ravens around Dowdun Reach until you have ten samples, then give all ten to Zanik. If a cleared area has none left, continue exploring the keep instead of assuming every raven drops one.

2. Collect Zanik's three ingredients
- Return to Zanik with all three items before searching for the final source.

| Dragon blood | Kill a Dowdun dragon, or a dragon wolf in Fellhollow. |
| Twilight lily | Look for the blue-glowing plant by an anima tree at The Lake, southwest of Zanik. |
| Unholy water | Collect it at the fountain behind The Cathedral. Approach from the southwest if you want to avoid the guarded group. |

3. Find Putrilius and finish the hand-in
Putrilius's later trade of ten additional corrupted essence samples for 50 infernal fragments is separate from the quest hand-in. Do not count that trade as the cape reward.
- Travel through The Nexus into The Grand Hall. Use Windstep to reach the roof; watch for the Black Knight sniper and guardian.
- Speak to the corrupted chicken Putrilius, then return to Zanik and finish her dialogue for the Zamorak cape and its recipe.
