Check the GPU before changing every graphics setting #
Blizzard’s architecture cutoff is AMD GCN 1, NVIDIA Maxwell or Intel Skylake, or newer. Passing that cutoff is not the same as meeting the full minimum specification: Blizzard explicitly lists some compatible older cards as below minimum. Lowering a preset is not an established workaround for an unsupported architecture.
- On Windows, open Device Manager → Display adapters, or Settings → System → Display → Advanced display, and note the exact GPU model.
- Compare that model with the official architecture notice, then check the full operating-system, memory and storage requirements.
- If the game opens, record a baseline before changing one setting at a time. Keep launch failure, Enter World crashes and low frame rate as separate problems.
- If a change does not help, restore the previous value and keep the exact error for the technical case. No single preset is proven best for every computer.

Update to beta build 69977 #
Officially announcedBlizzard’s September 22 client notice identifies WoW Forever 1.60.1, build 69977. Exit the beta and update it through Battle.net before checking the affected behavior.
The notice reports Mac display/stability fixes, improved character-selection navigation when launched with gamepad active, and gamepad interaction with items that offer quests. These are developer-reported fixes; Kingy has not reproduced them. The September 24 weekly update is still planned.

HD and SD models #
Blizzard presents HD and SD character models as a separate choice from the Modern and Classic presets. HD models can use restored Classic animations, shown in the official panel with a running HD dwarf comparison. The excerpt below demonstrates that model and animation choice.
A model choice is not a performance measurement. The wiki has no verified frame-rate or hardware comparison for either option on any supported system.
These are announced options, not a settings-screen reproduction or performance recommendation.

Controller support #
Official gamepad support is announced, which makes a controller plan reasonable for Forever. Blizzard has not published the setup menu path, an official mapping list or a compatibility statement for specific gamepads on Windows or Mac.
Use the beta to record what a gamepad can and cannot do in the current build: menu navigation, camera and combat input are separate systems that may behave differently.

Transmog, opt-outs and what you see #
Transmog is optional. Choosing Classic Mode at first launch disables Transmog automatically, and a transmogrifier in certain cities can change that setting. Appearance collection continues while it is disabled.
Opting out shows other players’ equipped gear instead of their transmogrified appearances, while their hidden helm and cloak settings remain visible. Players can configure their own appearance even while opted out of seeing other players’ transmogs.
For eligible Uncommon and Rare bind-on-pickup dungeon drops, collecting the appearance does not require winning the equipment; Epic raid appearances follow the player the item binds to. The equipment itself is still allocated separately, so agree on loot rules in your group.

Modern and Classic presets #
The Modern and Classic visual presets are announced separately from the model choice. Returning players often remember Classic presentation; pick the preset you recognize and then decide whether HD or SD models match your machine.
A preset does not establish graphics hardware requirements. Forever is announced for Windows and Mac only, with exact CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and OS-version requirements unverified in this edition.
