Farming Camp · Steam demo
Demo installed, but Steam says “Missing game executable”?
On Steam Deck or Bazzite, try selecting a Proton compatibility tool for Farming Camp Demo in Steam’s Compatibility settings, then let Steam update the install and launch it again. A developer suggested this for empty demo installs on September 22; one player replied the next day that the demo was working. It is a reported workaround, not a confirmed fix for every device.
Steam demo · Linux and Steam Deck reports · checked September 23, 2026. The September 24 full release has not been tested against this issue.
Try the developer’s suggestion
Check which install failed
In your Steam Library, select Farming Camp Demo. This guidance is for a demo that reports a missing executable or shows an empty install folder. A different launch error may have a different cause.
Select Proton for this demo
Open the demo’s Properties, then Compatibility. Choose an available Proton compatibility tool for this game. Steam may label the per-game control “Select compatibility tool” or “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.”
Let Steam finish any download, then retry
Return to the Library, wait for the demo’s update or download to finish, and launch it. Check whether the game files now appear. The developer did not name a required Proton version, so this guide does not prescribe one.
If it still fails: Keep the exact error, device, operating system, chosen compatibility tool and whether the install folder contains files. Add those details to the developer’s Steam support thread. Reinstalling and verifying files had already failed for one reporter, so neither is a confirmed fix here.
Source and limits
In the Farming Camp Steam discussion, a developer-badged helpdesk account asked a Steam Deck OLED player on September 22 to try Proton in the demo’s Compatibility settings. On September 23, an earlier Bazzite reporter replied that the demo was working after quoting that suggestion. Separate Steam Deck and Deck OLED players reported empty installs or the missing-executable message. Those reports identify a player problem; they do not prove one root cause or success on every system.
Steam’s Farming Camp store page lists September 24, 2026 as the planned full release. This answer applies to the prelaunch demo and makes no claim about the release build or other platforms. No Kingy gameplay or device test was performed.
