Build an Ashlands magic loadout you can keep supplied

Pre-1.0 reference · selected 1.0 corrections · Evidence scope ↓

Quick answer

Keep your existing frost staff and recovery kit while building a sheltered Galdr table at level 2 or above. Add Embla pieces as materials allow, maintain two different eitr foods and one health food, then choose Dundr for close lightning bursts or Staff of the Wild for temporary area control. Build Unfading candles and the Feathery wreath for later upgrades; practise resource recovery before taking the new kit into a major fight.

Connect Galdr upgrades, make Embla armor, maintain two eitr foods and choose between Dundr and Staff of the Wild for specific encounters.

1.0 changes for this guide Late-game gear durability

Selected changes reviewed on . Other mechanics remain a pre-1.0 reference.

Late-game gear durability

Mistlands and Ashlands gear received higher durability. Check your item’s current durability and repair before departing. Keep the reserve kit in the guide.

Still unresolved: New durability values and per-item coverage are unresolved; this does not revalidate crafting costs or station levels.

Before you start

Check the table level before collecting another rare material

  1. At your sheltered Galdr table, check which extensions are already connected. The Rune table supplies level 2, enough to craft all base equipment in this guide once you have its materials.
  2. Add Unfading candles for level 3 alongside the Rune table. They use Black marble, Refined eitr, Resin and Skeleton trophies. Skeletons in early-biome ruins or Burial Chambers can supply the trophies; save them instead of discarding them. These ingredients are available before the Ashlands.
  3. For level 4, add the Feathery wreath. Reserve 8 Celestial feathers, an Asksvin trophy, 10 Refined eitr and 3 Ashwood. Check the connection and displayed level; duplicate extensions cannot replace missing types.
  4. Bring finished ingredients to the established workshop where practical. Smelted Flametal and the Black metal used for a new Galdr table need appropriate cargo transport. Keep the refinery and its sparks away from the working room.

Collect feathers and gems without risking the whole kit

Celestial feathers come from Fallen Valkyries and can also appear in fortress chests. Fight a Valkyrie on cleared solid ground: move away from the ground left by its ranged spit, evade raised-talons strikes, and create distance when its wings fold for a spin. Avoid standing beneath it through a full attack sequence. Gather the drop only after nearby enemies are controlled.

An Asksvin trophy is an occasional drop, so the wreath may take more than one hunt. Use the established Asksvin hunting route for hides and trophies. Ashwood comes from the biome’s trees; Fiddleheads are collected from its ferns.

Dundr needs a Bloodstone and Staff of the Wild needs Jade. Search the inner chests using the fortress guide, then return the gems to safe storage. One fortress may not contain the desired gem. Reserve feathers for the chosen staff separately from the wreath’s eight.

Trade armor for eitr regeneration deliberately

The three base Embla pieces cost 56 Linen thread, 55 Refined eitr, 22 Asksvin hide and 5 Flametal in total. Spin flax at the Plains Spinning wheel, refine Sap and Soft tissue in the Mistlands, hunt Asksvin for hides and smelt Flametal. The existing Plains and Mistlands supply guides cover those chains.

Embla improves eitr regeneration but provides substantially less armor than Flametal equipment. Replace pieces gradually if supplies are limited, and keep the former set at the reserve base. Armor does not supply a casting pool: the food below remains essential.

Craft at Galdr 2. Later quality upgrades need Galdr 3 and then 4; carry the existing piece and use the Upgrade tab. Check that the displayed armor gain justifies the cost against your current upgraded equipment. The inspected progression supports Embla quality 3; a database quality-4 row requiring Galdr 5 is not an available route here.

Maintain two eitr foods and one health food

Our recommended starting combination is Sizzling berry broth, Marinated greens and Fiery svinstew. The two eitr foods provide an initial combined 180 eitr; their benefits decay, so use your current bar and spell requirement before committing. Fiery svinstew keeps a health-focused slot instead of spending all three slots on eitr.

Broth is made directly at Cauldron 5. Marinated greens needs Cauldron 6: connect Rolling pins and cutting boards alongside the four earlier extensions. Before that upgrade, use the already-supported Seeker aspic as the second eitr food. Eating two servings of the same food does not occupy two useful slots.

Reserve Sap for meals as well as the refinery. Maintain a planted Magecap reserve in the Mistlands and collect Fiddleheads, Smoke puffs and Vineberries from safe Ashlands routes. Bring the harvest home before consuming the last ingredients; the farming guide covers crop reserves and cultivation.

Keep spare meals and healing and eitr meads at the staging portal. A full eitr bar does not restore stamina for running, and rapid consecutive casts can leave you unable to respond. Recover behind cover between short engagements.

Choose a spell for the space in front of you

For Dundr, start with space behind you, finish its reload, then fire at a target close enough for the spread to connect. Eitr is spent while reloading. Stop firing to retreat when another enemy closes; sprinting interrupts the reload. Sources disagree about jumping and dodging during it, so let the reload complete from a clear position and do not rely on those actions preserving progress.

For Staff of the Wild, aim the projectile at ground where approaching enemies will actually pass. The initial hit and the resulting vine can both deal damage. Up to ten roots can be active, and each lasts roughly twenty-five seconds; place a useful few, then preserve eitr for a response. The roots do not follow you, and a target can move beyond their reach.

Use Staff of Protection as part of a practiced defensive routine, allowing for its health cost before fighting. Retreat when the route becomes crowded or your resources run low. This guide’s staff choices supplement the Fader combat route; they do not replace its movement and hazard responses.

A practical first use for each staff
StaffUseful jobLimitation to plan around
DundrA close lightning burst against one exposed target, particularly a Morgen.Spread wastes distant shots; reload leaves an opening for enemies.
Staff of the WildPlace attacking roots along a cleared approach before enemies reach you.Roots are stationary and temporary; immobilization is a chance, not guaranteed control.
Staff of FrostKeep your familiar short-burst frost option while new staffs are being learned.Range, line of sight and the eitr reserve still matter.

Prove that the kit can return and recover

  1. Begin with one short surface outing from the protected portal. Practise aim, reload or root placement, and resource recovery against an isolated enemy before adding a second staff or a boss.
  2. Return while food, durability and the escape reserve remain. Repair at the Galdr table and replace consumed food and meads before sorting optional loot.
  3. After a death, eat and Rest at the reserve base, equip the spare set and use the known route. Retrieve the tombstone during a controlled opening, then leave to re-equip. Restore a destroyed portal or claimed bed before attempting the same fight again.

When something goes wrong

I have Embla armor but cannot cast.

Eat eitr foods and allow the bar to fill. Compare the current pool with the spell cost; regeneration armor does not create eitr capacity by itself.

Dundr repeatedly refuses to fire.

Ensure it has completed reloading with enough eitr. Sprinting interrupts reload; make space and finish it before returning to the target.

My roots did not stop an approaching enemy.

Immobilization is chance-based and roots are temporary and stationary. Reposition and defend yourself; never use a root cast as proof that an escape lane is sealed.
