The short answer
For base storage, a Wall Locker holds 20 items for 2 Titanium; a Floor Locker holds 30 for 3 Titanium and 1 Quartz. A Portable Locker holds 15 and can travel with you. Use the Habitat Builder for the construction recipes below.
Before you start
- Unlock the Habitat Builder; carry a charged Scanner for missing blueprints.
- Check the blueprint menu before gathering for a container you have not unlocked.
Choose a container for the job
| Container | Ingredients / capacity | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Wall Locker | 2 Titanium · 20 slots | Compact interior storage. |
| Floor Locker | 3 Titanium + 1 Quartz · 30 slots | Larger freestanding storage. |
| Portable Locker | 4 Titanium · 15 slots | A carried container or vehicle attachment. |
| Tailing Chest | 3 Titanium · 25 slots | An alternative after its later scans. |
Find the blueprint before the materials
Check Interior Facilities in the Habitat Builder for base lockers and Utility for the Portable Locker. The dedicated Portable Locker walkthrough and Prima agree on the Builder; GameWith’s general storage table instead labels it a Fabricator item.
Published Wall Locker unlock instructions differ: Destructoid says it comes with the Builder; Prima says to scan a locker. Check your menu first, then scan accessible furniture if the recipe is absent.
Scan Floor Lockers in abandoned habitats or ship interiors as you explore. The Tailing Chest needs two scans around the village huts in the hot region; prepare Heat Tolerance before that trip. Build available early lockers while working toward those unlocks.
Bring a Portable Locker home
The Haul is reported to provide 30 internal slots plus two 15-slot lockers, giving 60 cargo slots when both are attached. Its scans and construction costs are covered in the existing chassis guide.
- Look for a free locker in the shallows around the Lifepod, or build one after unlocking the Builder.
- Load gathered materials, then carry it with your hands free. Put it down when you need a handheld tool.
- Mount it on a Tadpole attachment point for transport. Standard and Scout Ray configurations take one; the Haul takes two.
- At base, unload the materials or place the container on a suitable rack. Check the attachment before setting out again.

Track cargo and protect stored equipment
Put a Tracking Tag in a carryable locker to give it a short-range signal. Hotfix 1 increased tracker detection range; the notes provide no numeric radius. A tag in your hand or inventory when reprinting also extends black-box detection.
Buddy System standardised the name Carryable Rack; older guides may call it a Wall Rack or Hardpoint. Hotfix 1 fixed rack items missing from Refund Base. Save and inspect your stored equipment before rebuilding.
Keep useful supplies out of the Trashcan: it destroys items after a short delay. For co-op handovers, leave the Tadpole before opening inventory sharing.

Prepare the next gathering trip
Kingy’s suggested setup: keep building materials together and put charged spares, food, water and healing where you collect your departure kit. Unload after each trip, then pack for one clear objective. Extra cargo capacity is useful only if the return route and oxygen reserve still work.
