The short answer
Use an upgrade Biobed’s terminal inside a colonist outpost. Endurance adds 3 inventory slots; Dexterity adds a hotbar slot. Chap’s bunker is a corroborated early Endurance stop. Confirm the reward message and your slot count before leaving.
Before you start
- Bring oxygen support, a charged Scanner and supplies for the return swim.
- Directions below are published approximate landmarks from the starting Lifepod.
Claim the upgrade at the terminal
The published starting inventory has 20 slots. An Endurance reward adds three: one upgrade gives 23, and two give 26. A Dexterity reward changes the hotbar instead. Building a bed at home is not the upgrade route described here.
- Investigate colonist outposts as NOA’s black-box signals arrive.
- Look for the upgrade terminal beside the Biobed. Buddy System added a nearby beep, a screen flash and clearer interaction text.
- Interact with the terminal and read the reward. Endurance increases carrying space; Dexterity increases hotbar space.
- Reopen the inventory and confirm the change. Each upgrade terminal grants its reward once.
Start with Chap’s bunker
- Follow Chap’s black-box signal, or search roughly 220 m southeast of the Lifepod.
- Look for the cave entrance at the foot of a stone pillar, about 40 m deep, and enter the habitat.
- Use its Biobed terminal and check for Endurance. Inspect nearby scannable equipment while your oxygen allows.
- Return and unload before treating the next outpost as a separate trip.
Use the displayed reward to plan later stops
GameWith reports five Endurance upgrades and two Dexterity upgrades, for 35 inventory slots and seven hotbar slots. Treat these as published Early Access totals, not a promise for future builds.
Some location rewards disagree across guides: GameWith labels the bunker near Anita’s signal Dexterity, while PC Gamer calls Anita’s Garden Endurance. Their northern-outpost labels also differ. Kingy does not present a complete reward-by-location route until those conflicts are resolved. Read the terminal message at each stop.
GameWith also lists an upgrade inside the Cicada Wreck in the Graveyard region. Follow the Heat Tolerance and oxygen preparation guides before pursuing deeper or hot-area upgrades.

When your inventory is still full
Kingy’s return check: unload spare construction materials, keep the tools and survival supplies needed for this trip, and leave room for its target. Use a Portable Locker for cargo. Stop gathering when your return reserve requires it, even if empty slots remain.
If the slot count did not change, check whether the terminal awarded Dexterity or had already been used. Record the displayed message, build and location if the result appears wrong.
