The short answer
Look for loose Salt in the cave near Chap’s black box southeast of the Lifepod. Later, search pale dead coral in the Raceway biomes. Reserve Salt for your next recipe and recharge existing Power Cells when possible.
Before you start
- Bring oxygen support and leave inventory space for the return trip.
- Use the Chap black-box signal if available; published distances are approximate.
Find the cave near Chap’s black box
PC Gamer and Destructoid describe Salt in the cave near Chap’s habitat, roughly 200–220 m southeast of the Lifepod. Use the terrain and black-box signal to correct your bearing.
- Head southeast beyond the Welcome Center toward the stone pillars.
- PC Gamer describes a pillar with a standing light in front of it. Search near its base for the small cave entrance.
- Inspect the cave floor outside Chap’s room for loose Salt crystals. Keep the entrance and your return path in view.

Confirm the pickup and keep a return reserve
The walkthroughs describe small, pale crystals but differ on their exact color. Confirm the Salt interaction label before collecting a loose piece.
Kingy’s trip check: leave enough oxygen to exit the cave and reach your next known refill point. Check your collected stock before returning; this route does not promise a fixed number of deposits.
- Collect a loose Salt pickup and confirm it entered your inventory.
- Keep your return landmark visible or record it using the navigation guide.
- Leave when your oxygen reserve requires the return trip.

Search dead coral on later trips
GameWith reports Salt on white dead coral, including dead Coral Crab shells in South Raceway, with further deposits in North Raceway and the Graveyard. These are later search options, separate from the starter cave.
Prepare for the area’s heat and oxygen requirements using the Biomod and oxygen guides. Do not treat a resource marker or a vehicle as a guarantee that a route is clear of hazards.

Reserve Salt for the recipe you need
Kingy’s planning advice: set aside the ingredients for your next vehicle or supply recipe before converting spare Salt into Glass. Use the crafting-stations guide to select and load a Processor recipe.
Keep depleted Power Cells for recharging at a powered Power Cell Terminal or Tadpole Dock. The charging guide covers both options, so a new Salt trip need not replace every empty cell.
| Use | Preparation check |
|---|---|
| Power Cell | Salt joins 2 Basic Batteries and 1 Strong Acid. The Salt quantity is disputed; see the next section. |
| Food and water | Use the existing food and drinking-water guides for selected recipes, including Sugar of Saturn and Isotonic Water. |
| Glass (alternative) | Process 2 Salt at the Processor. You can still make Glass from 2 Quartz at the Fabricator. |
Check the Power Cell quantity and skip respawn promises
The Power Cell Salt quantity is disputed: GameWith’s charging table lists 2 Salt, while Destructoid’s recipe table lists 1. Check the Fabricator recipe in your build before planning an exact batch. This guide does not settle that disagreement.
GameWith reports that Salt can reappear but leaves its respawn mechanics and limits unresolved. Mark useful locations without relying on a timer, guaranteed yield or repeatable farming loop. These are published gathering pointers, not a route Kingy has tested in gameplay.
