About the animal
West Indian manatees are large marine mammals of shallow coastal waters, rivers and estuaries from the southeastern United States through the Caribbean to parts of Central and South America. Frontier describes them as preferring warm, calm water with abundant aquatic vegetation. [2]

Frontier lists the species as Vulnerable and notes that some subspecies are Endangered. Its work-in-progress profile gives an estimated wild population of 8,197–11,328.
