Choose an Ashlands gemstone weapon

This route uses Nidhögg because it preserves a familiar one-handed sword and shield setup. The gemstone adds an effect; it does not replace positioning, stamina or a practiced attack. If another weapon is already working well, keep using it while collecting the materials rather than switching during a difficult expedition.

Our Iolite preference is a general exploration recommendation, not a measured damage ranking. Enemy resistance, skill, attack selection and the fight’s length can change the result. You can keep the ordinary sword and finish the Fader preparation route without committing to this optional craft.

The dedicated effect reference gives a 25% trigger chance on a normal attack and 20% on a secondary attack. The sword page’s general 25% wording omits that distinction. The effect can jump to nearby targets; one activation is not a promise that every enemy in a group will be hit.

Chain lightning can damage neutral Ashlands Dvergr and immediately make them hostile. Our recommendation is to carry a non-chain backup near their outposts and draw enemies well away before using the Thundering sword. Check the whole fight area, not only the enemy under your reticle.

Take attacks that leave an escape reserve. Do not keep swinging just to force a proc, and do not count on lightning to interrupt the next incoming hit. Your shield, movement and retreat route still need to work when the chance effect does not trigger.

A Jade melee hit has a 20% chance to immobilize for 10 seconds. This prevents movement and turning, but the target can still attack within reach. A Morgen can also travel through movements built into its attack animation. Move away or around the affected target; do not stand in front of it assuming the vines disabled its attack.

The Primal sword’s poison is a poor reason by itself to convert for the Ashlands, where many targets resist or ignore it. Choose the control opportunity deliberately. If the target remains dangerous or the effect fails to appear, disengage using your ordinary combat plan.

Staff of the Wild is a separate elemental-magic tool. Its summoned roots have a different immobilization chance; the melee sword’s 20% rate must not be copied onto the staff.

The bonus is 0.2% per point of health you are missing. It does not use the enemy’s missing health or your missing-health percentage. For example, 50 missing health gives a 10% bonus; 100 missing gives 20%. These are arithmetic examples of the documented rule, not measured hits against an enemy. Armor, resistance and other damage factors still matter.

At full health that missing-health bonus is zero. Healing reduces it, but our recommendation is to heal whenever survival requires it. Taking avoidable hits or suppressing recovery just to raise the bonus defeats the purpose of improving your equipment.

There is a plausible Blood magic interaction: Staff of Protection spends up to 40% of current health and adds a barrier. Combining that documented cost with the missing-health rule implies a larger sword bonus after a cast, while the barrier can cover some incoming damage. This is an inference across sources, not a combination we have tested in gameplay.

That hybrid also needs eitr food, taking a slot otherwise available for health or stamina. A lower maximum health pool can mean fewer missing health points at the same percentage loss. Follow the protection guide’s food and casting procedure; do not repeatedly recast only to drain health. A broken barrier leaves your remaining health exposed. Healing and eitr supplies belong in the kit even if healing lowers the bonus.

The three loose gemstones can pass through ordinary wood portals. Flametal bars and other restricted cargo still need a Stone portal or a physical haul. Deposit spare gems before the next risky trip.

1. Follow the fortress clearing route, then check the central tower chest and other chests around the tower. Mark which fortress has been searched and bank the gems between expeditions.
2. Do not plan on a particular color from the next chest: all three are chance-based loot. If the desired gem is absent, use your existing weapon and scout another fortress instead of converting to an unwanted effect just to spend something.
3. Reserve one Bloodstone for Gem cutter if the forge is not yet level 5. Then reserve one matching gem for conversion and a second matching gem for quality 2. A Bleeding sword through quality 2 plus a new Gem cutter therefore needs three Bloodstones.
4. Check the group’s other plans before spending shared gems. Dundr and Staff of the Wild, Trollstav and Dyrnwyn also use this loot. Their recipes do not automatically grant the corresponding melee gemstone effect.
