Craft Fenris armor and choose a mobile loadout

Pre-1.0 reference · not revalidated for 1.0 · Evidence scope ↓

Quick answer

At Workbench level 2, the base Fenris set costs 60 Fenris hair, 12 Wolf pelts, 20 Leather scraps and one Cultist trophy. Each worn piece adds movement speed; the coat supplies frost resistance, while all three together grant fire resistance and a Fists bonus. Keep a familiar weapon if you prefer. Optional Flesh rippers add a separate Forge-3 cost of ten hair, six claws and ten Silver.

Budget the three armor pieces, build the right stations, decide whether Flesh rippers suit you, and keep frost protection and recovery gear available.

Before you start

  • Banked materials from the Frost Cave route, plus Wolf pelts and Leather scraps.
  • A sheltered Workbench and connected Chopping block. The armor does not require silver or a forge.
  • For optional Flesh rippers: silver mining and smelting, a sheltered Forge, Anvils and Forge cooler. Keep the existing expedition weapon until the new one is ready.

Make useful pieces while the trophy is still missing

Hunt wolves using the Mountain approach or use surplus adults from a protected wolf herd for pelts. Boars supply Leather scraps; use the breeding reserve if established. The Cultist trophy belongs only to the hood recipe.

The complete base set totals 60 hair, 12 pelts, 20 scraps and one trophy, before any upgrades. This is the sum of the three recipe cards, not a promise about cave yield. For a solo first set, I recommend reserving that budget before making decorations or buying extra quality levels. In a group, agree who receives the first trophy and bank the rest rather than spreading every ingredient across half-finished sets.

  1. Build a sheltered Workbench and put a Chopping block close enough to connect. Confirm level 2 at the bench; a Forge with the same displayed level is a different station.
  2. Carry each required ingredient to discover its recipe. Make the coat first if you want permanent worn frost protection, or leggings first if you prefer to retain your current chest piece. This priority is an editorial choice, not a crafting prerequisite.
  3. Make the other body piece when supplies permit. Keep the hood ingredients stored until the trophy arrives; neither a Wolf trophy nor an Ulv trophy completes the recipe.
  4. Craft the hood when ready, equip all three pieces and inspect the active effects. Repair the equipment before leaving and retain your previous kit in the recovery chest.

Check which protection your actual outfit provides

Fire resistance reduces fire damage; it is not fire or lava immunity. Keep avoiding Cultist blasts and other burning hazards. The movement bonus does not remove the need for food or stamina, and your equipped weapon and other gear can change your final movement speed.

Choose the full set for travel, scouting or a practiced evasive fighting style. Choose a mixed outfit if retaining stronger armor in a slot matters more to you; inspect the resulting armor and effects before departure. Fenris has less physical protection than the heavy Mountain equipment route, so do not assume its speed makes standing through the same hits safe.

If replacing the coat while retaining Fenris leggings, carry another frost source from the Mountain equipment guide. Keep spare frost mead at home even when your everyday outfit protects you. Do not stack frost sources expecting stronger resistance; if Freezing persists after getting wet or changing gear, retreat to shelter and recheck the actual status.

Add Flesh rippers only if you want fist combat

Fenris armor does not force a weapon choice. Keep the familiar mace, sword or bow if that makes the expedition more dependable. Flesh rippers are an optional two-handed weapon that uses Fists skill and deals slash damage; the set’s Fists bonus helps that skill rather than boosting every weapon category.

For a base pair, reserve ten additional Fenris hair, six Fenris claws and ten Silver. One craft supplies the paired weapon for both hands; you do not craft a separate left and right copy. It occupies both hands, so your shield is unavailable while using it.

  1. Use the silver route to locate and mine silver with an Iron pickaxe. Smelt ten ore with twenty coal for the weapon’s ten bars, and transport the ore or bars physically under normal wood-portal rules.
  2. Reuse the sheltered Forge. Add Anvils and a Forge cooler, retaining both connections, to reach Forge level 3. Their metal costs are separate from the weapon’s ten Silver; the shared cards below give the complete station materials.
  3. Craft Flesh rippers at Forge 3 and leave the previous weapon in your kit for the first outing. Start with isolated familiar enemies on level ground, using short attacks and a reserved dodge instead of assuming a Fists bonus makes every parry safe.
  4. Compare the close reach and lack of an equipped shield with your preferred weapon. Use the rippers when that tradeoff suits the route; return to a familiar weapon for a boss or cramped recovery if it does not.

Improve selectively and leave a usable reserve

Return to Moder preparation when the Mountain objectives are ready. For another optional cave challenge, use Howling Caverns and read its quest consequences before returning Hildir’s chest. The Fenris branch can end with a useful mixed outfit; a trophy hunt should not hold the entire boss route hostage.

  1. Repair Fenris armor at a sheltered Workbench level 2 before the next expedition. Use its Upgrade tab when improving an existing piece; the Craft tab makes another base item.
  2. A Tanning rack alongside the Chopping block gives Workbench 3 for the first armor upgrade. Check the selected item’s displayed additional costs before spending banked hair. Further quality needs further distinct station extensions; duplicates do not add levels.
  3. Choose a completed base outfit and recovery reserve before pursuing maximum quality. Upgrades increase armor and durability, but you do not need to max every piece to receive the three-piece set bonus.
  4. For a body retrieval, eat and prepare the reserve frost protection before equipping the spare outfit. If you use Fenris as the recovery set, check all three slots and take a weapon; speed alone does not clear the enemies beside the tombstone.
  5. After a loss, use the recovery route and retrieve the equipped kit before restarting material farming. Keep the stored trophy and spare hair at home until you actually need replacements.

When something goes wrong

The Fenris recipe is missing at my forge.

Use Workbench level 2 for the armor. Carry every ingredient at least once; the hood also needs a Cultist trophy. Only Flesh rippers use Forge level 3.

I put on leggings but still freeze.

The coat is the Fenris piece with individual frost resistance. Use it, another frost-resistance armor item or finished frost mead before returning to the cold.

The full-set bonus disappeared.

Check that hood, coat and leggings are all equipped rather than merely carried. A circlet or mixed armor replacement breaks Fenris blessing.

I feel fragile despite the movement bonus.

Retain stronger armor pieces or switch back to your prior heavy kit for that route. Keep three renewed foods and evade deliberately; mobility does not reduce incoming physical damage by itself.

I cannot craft Flesh rippers with two forge levels.

Connect both Anvils and Forge cooler to the same forge for level 3, then carry ten hair, six claws and ten Silver. Raw ore cannot replace smelted bars.

Keep the result useful

Use the success check to finish this job, restock any reserves you used and return to the supporting journeys or your current boss objective.
