Find Moder and transport the dragon eggs

Pre-1.0 reference · not revalidated for 1.0 · Evidence scope ↓

Quick answer

Find a Moder Vegvisir in Mountain ruins, scout the marked altar, then collect three Dragon eggs from Mountain nests. Each weighs 200 and cannot use a normal wood portal, so carry them along a cleared physical route. Stage the eggs before the final rest, repair and food check.

Separate the Mountain search, three heavy egg hauls, arena preparation and final boss loadout so the summon does not strand you.

Research-based guide · Pre-1.0 mechanics reference; 1.0 compatibility is not yet verified · Version & review context

Before you start

  • A working Mountain kit with frost protection, a repaired bow, crafted arrows and replenishable food.
  • A protected portal and a route home that remains usable while moving heavy cargo.
  • Enough daylight and supplies for scouting; finding the altar and summoning are separate trips if needed.

Search Mountain ruins for the boss marker

  1. Explore tall Mountains in daytime, marking ruined structures and clearing their guards before checking for a red Vegvisir. Interact with a Moder locator to add the altar marker.
  2. Follow the marker as a scout. Inspect the approach, surrounding enemies, room for movement and safe portal location before collecting cargo.
  3. If the marked altar lies on a different landmass, make the journey with ordinary expedition supplies first. There is no reason to carry an egg across the sea before knowing whether nests near the destination can supply it.
  4. Mark any Frost Caves without treating them as mandatory. The silver route can continue through surface exploration and Mountain ruins.

Plan three eggs as cargo, not ordinary loot

Dragon eggs are the large glowing items in drake nests. They are different from chicken eggs and powdered eggshells. Three are required; each weighs 200 and cannot travel through a normal wood portal. Look for nests on Moder’s Mountain first.

Travel light while retaining food, frost protection and a defensive kit. Clear the nest before picking up its egg, then walk a prepared path and stage the egg at the altar area. Repeat for the remaining eggs. Check the current carry-weight total each time; a strength accessory is optional and is not a substitute for a manageable route.

  1. Mark the nest and clear its drakes from a position where their drops will remain reachable.
  2. Remove spare ore and excess materials from the pack before picking up the egg. Use a marked cache if a full return is impractical.
  3. Transport eggs by foot, or by boat if the route requires an island crossing. A portal beside the nest only moves the player and allowed supplies.
  4. Place the eggs into the altar’s offering positions as the interaction prompts allow. Complete the final summon interaction only after the arena and loadout checks below.

Prepare a movement loop and a separate recovery point

Clear wolves, drakes and other nearby threats before the summon. Smooth awkward terrain where practical and leave room to move sideways when a volley begins. Avoid making the whole arena a narrow trench or a cliff-edge perch.

Keep the portal, reserve chest and boat out of Moder’s direct line of attack. Rocks and trees can be destroyed by boss attacks, so do not base the plan on one permanent natural shield. Identify more than one way to leave a dangerous landing spot.

Walk back to the portal and test it before the fight. Have frost mead, food and backup equipment on the home side. Repair the bow and armor, top up arrows, eat the chosen Mountain meal and renew Rested. Keep medium healing and optional stamina mead within easy reach. Start with daylight remaining.

When something goes wrong

The egg prevents me from using the portal.

That is the normal wood portal restriction. Leave it in a marked cache or continue along the physical route to the altar; moving it to another portal does not solve the restriction.

The marked Mountain seems to have too few eggs.

Search more of the Mountain and mark nests; if necessary bring an egg from another Mountain by land or boat. Do not summon until all three are staged.

I cannot find Moder on this Mountain.

Continue looking for Vegvisirs in ruins and scout another tall Mountain if necessary. Dragon eggs and silver do not prove that this particular Mountain contains the altar.
