The released game and later patches may differ from the developer material cited here. Use this as a practical starting point, then report the exact prompt or result when your match does something different.

The Civilian side becomes easier when the team shares information before anyone commits to a route. Read the visible objective, find out what the nearby residents need, and call out the items and escape options that actually appear in your match.

Your first minute

  1. Read the objective before following another player.
  2. Identify a resident, point of interest, or useful building.
  3. Tell the team what you found and what the interaction allows.
  4. Keep one possible escape in mind while the group works.

Do not assume that a remembered route or item location will repeat. The official overview says that key items and possible escapes can vary by match.

Work the resident loop

  1. Locate a resident or point of interest.
  2. Use the available conversation to warn the resident about Michael.
  3. Report whether the interaction opened a police call, a secure hiding option, or a companion.
  4. Reassess the next objective with the team.

The published flow describes these as possible conversation outcomes. It does not establish every trigger, timing, or reward, so keep those details tied to the prompt you see in-game.

Search without losing the team

Use short calls instead of disappearing into separate buildings:

  • Say which building or landmark you are checking.
  • Call out a weapon, distraction, repair tool, or key item as soon as you find it.
  • Tell the team when an area is no longer safe.
  • If someone is already handling a resident, scout the next visible objective instead of repeating the same interaction.

These are team habits, not fixed mechanics. Adjust them when the objective or map state gives you better information.

Prepare an escape

Lootable containers can hold items used to access or create possible escape routes, and the locations can change between matches. Treat an escape as a team decision: know who is carrying the needed item, which route is available, and where Michael was last seen.

Starting an escape sequence creates noise that alerts Michael to the Civilian’s exact location. Use that moment deliberately. Call the escape, have the team ready to move, and do not describe an unknown distance or timer as if it were confirmed.

For the published sequence, read Escapes, Police, and Objectives.

If Michael finds you

Tell the team where the threat is before trying to solve the whole match alone. Move toward a known landmark or teammate when that is safer than improvising, and keep the visible objective in mind after the chase changes the situation.

The goal is not to memorize one perfect route. It is to leave the team with enough information to choose the next safe action.

First-match checklist

  • Read the objective.
  • Find a resident or point of interest.
  • Report the interaction result.
  • Search for useful items without losing the team.
  • Identify a possible escape.
  • Call out when an escape sequence begins.
  • Record any surprising prompt or reward for the wiki.

What this guide does not claim

This page does not promise fixed item spawns, fixed escape routes, a universal timer, or a guaranteed way to stop Michael. Those details belong on a tested mechanic page when the wiki has repeated them on a named build.
