Craft, equip and trigger your first trinket

Pre-1.0 reference · selected 1.0 corrections · Evidence scope ↓

Quick answer

Craft Heart of the Forest or Bronze Pendant at a level-1 Forge, then equip it in your inventory. Combat actions build the orange adrenaline bar; reaching that trinket’s threshold triggers its effect automatically. There is no trinket-activation button. A trinket can be worn alongside an accessory such as Megingjord or Wisplight.

Make an early trinket from Bronze and a trophy, equip it alongside your accessory, and learn what fills and drains the adrenaline bar.

Trinket coverage

1.0 adds Neckstabber and Witch Crown. Use the thirteen-entry table for its pre-1.0 scope; it is not the full released trinket collection.

Still unresolved: New trinket effects, acquisition and recipes are not established here.

Before you start

  • A Bronze supply and sheltered Forge. Trinkets are optional support equipment, not prerequisites for a boss.
  • For our first route: 5 Bronze, 5 Ancient seeds and one Greydwarf Shaman trophy. If you already have a Bear trophy and three Rubies, Bronze Pendant is an alternative.
  • A familiar weapon, shield or ranged fallback, three foods and Rested, with space to store the trophy safely before crafting.

Use the early trophy you can obtain safely

Heart of the Forest helps health regeneration; Bronze Pendant helps stamina regeneration. Both need 50 adrenaline and last 60 seconds after activating. Our recommendation is to make the useful option whose trophy you already have, rather than postpone ordinary equipment to chase a rare drop.

Each needs five Bronze: 10 Copper and 5 Tin, in addition to the Forge’s construction cost. Use the mining route and the smelting workshop if you lack bars. Keep essential equipment and the next expedition’s food funded before buying this optional benefit.

Collect the Heart’s seeds and Shaman trophy

Bring the repaired armor and three-food plan from the Black Forest loadout. If the hunt goes badly, leave and recover rather than remain beside a nest while more enemies arrive.

  1. Check storage first. Greydwarf Shaman trophy is distinct from ordinary Greydwarf and Greydwarf Brute trophies. Reserve three extra Ancient seeds if you still need to summon The Elder.
  2. Scout Black Forest ruins and Greydwarf nests along a marked return route. Shamans can occur at those sites, while nighttime patrols offer more encounters at greater risk. A nest can repeatedly produce enemies; destroying it supplies seeds but ends that spawning source.
  3. Draw a manageable group onto clear ground. Prioritize the shaman because it heals allies. Avoid the forward poison spray by moving out of its cone; a shield cannot block that poison attack. Use the familiar bow from Elder equipment preparation or take short melee openings without getting surrounded.
  4. Collect the trophy if it drops and return it to storage. Repeat only while food, durability and the route remain adequate. There is no guaranteed kill count. Hunt brutes or clear other nests for the five crafting seeds; Ancient seeds cannot be grown as crops.

Use the Pendant if its materials are already within reach

Follow the bear hunt for the Bear trophy. Save three Rubies from Burial Chamber loot instead of selling every valuable to a trader. The core-gathering route already takes you into those chambers; check cleared-room floors and chests while keeping the exit route clear.

Return with the trophy before another expedition. A Bronze Pendant needs the actual Bear trophy; a hide, paw or another animal’s trophy cannot replace it. Neither early recipe consumes an existing trinket, so you can keep one as a spare if you later craft the other.

Craft once, then explicitly equip it

  1. Carry the exact recipe ingredients to a sheltered level-1-or-higher Forge. Handle each ingredient with this character if the recipe has not appeared, then select the named trinket in Craft.
  2. On keyboard and mouse, open the inventory and right-click the finished trinket to equip it. On a controller, select the item and use the current on-screen equip action; layouts can differ. Check its blue equipped background.
  3. Leave your armor and one accessory equipped. The trinket uses a different equipment category from Megingjord, Wishbone or Wisplight. There is no separate visible paper-doll slot to drag it into: worn gear still occupies inventory space.
  4. Close the inventory and proceed with normal combat. Watch the orange adrenaline meter and active-effect indicator when it fills. Equipping through a hotbar key toggles the item; it does not manually cast the trinket effect.

Charge through combat you can already handle

Hitting enemies, useful blocks or parries, successfully dodging an incoming attack, and certain magic actions generate adrenaline while a trinket is equipped. Weapon types and actions award different amounts. Swinging into empty air or rolling around without avoiding an attack is not a dependable charging method.

A successful Forsaken-power activation supplies 10 adrenaline. This is useful when it already fits the encounter, but spending a ready power merely to top up a trinket has an opportunity cost. Keep using food, stamina discipline and retreat rather than accepting damage to chase a surge.

For the first outing, fight an isolated enemy on known ground near your retreat route, then continue a normal clearing trip if the kit remains sound. A small encounter may end before an early 50-point trinket activates. That is expected, not proof the item is broken.

  • Magic can contribute at casting or on-hit points depending on the staff. Summoned skeleton and Staff of the Wild root attacks do not themselves fill your meter.
  • Poison, fire and spirit damage-over-time ticks do not generate more adrenaline. Chain lightning does not award direct-hit adrenaline, though a stagger it causes can contribute.

Separate the threshold, effect timer and inactive decay

The threshold belongs to the equipped trinket; 100 is not the universal requirement. When it fills, the accumulated adrenaline is spent and the benefit fires automatically. You cannot save a full bar for a manual heal. Heart of the Forest and Bronze Pendant improve regeneration for a minute; neither instantly refills a resource.

Adrenaline starts building again immediately, even during an active effect. The inspected reference describes no separate trinket cooldown. Triggering the same timed effect again refreshes its duration instead of stacking another copy of its magnitude.

Without further gains, the meter begins decaying after a short delay. Unequipping stops generation but does not itself reset the stored amount. Removing a trinket also does not cancel an already-active effect. These rules allow switching, but our first-use recommendation is to keep one equipped and learn its normal timing instead of opening inventory during a fight.

Do not plan a long walk around a charged bar surviving until the destination. If a timed buff is essential for a crossing or encounter, check the actual active effect and remaining time at the moment you need it.

Recover equipment before repeating a trophy hunt

  1. If you die under normal item-retention rules, use the recovery route to retrieve the equipped trinket with the rest of your kit. Eat, get Rested and bring the backup weapon before returning.
  2. Lure threats away from the grave and retrieve essential gear with inventory room available. Leave to re-equip safely; remember to equip the recovered trinket again rather than merely carry it.
  3. If a trophy remains uncollected at the fight site, return only after restoring a usable approach. If the whole return base was destroyed, rebuild its shelter and bed, claim and verify the spawn point, and restore the portal first.
  4. Keep a spare older trinket at home when one is available. It is better to recover with a modest known benefit than spend the last bars and rare trophy while the original is still recoverable.

When something goes wrong

The orange bar never appears or grows.

Check the trinket is equipped, not simply in inventory. Generate adrenaline through an appropriate hit or successful combat action; not every action or summoned attack contributes.

I press its hotbar key but the buff does not fire.

The key equips or unequips it. Leave it equipped and reach its adrenaline threshold; activation is automatic.

The Heart did not immediately heal a large amount.

Its benefit is faster health regeneration, not instant restoration or extra maximum health. Keep food and healing supplies active.

The recipe is missing despite having a similar trophy.

Check the exact species, handle each ingredient and use the Forge. An ordinary Greydwarf trophy cannot replace a Shaman trophy.
