Before you start
- Choose a 1.0 world using the returning-player guide. Existing saves work, while reliable new generation needs unexplored terrain.
- Keep a working home spawn, food reserve, spare kit and return route. Treat the first trip as an expedition, even though the biome itself has no documented Fader gate.
- Choose whether you want official-only discovery or the full researched route. The sections below make that spoiler boundary explicit.
Separate biome access from endgame progression
Iron Gate’s FAQ says players can travel directly north. That supports entry and exploration, not automatic access to every dungeon, production chain or boss.
The official notes name updated Fader Relic functionality, Winding Tunnels, Mörkhalla, the Intricate Key, Jotun events and Kall, but do not connect them. Independent completed walkthroughs supply a consistent practical sequence. This edition publishes that sequence as researched 1.0 guidance and keeps disputed names, exact consumption and reset behavior out of the instructions.

Start where the biome can generate
- Use a fresh world for Iron Gate’s recommended clean experience, or travel into genuinely unexplored far-north terrain in an existing world.
- Make the first outing a scout. Carry supplies you can recover, mark the landing and one protected fallback, then return after identifying a safe approach or point of interest.
- If expected villages or dungeons are absent from previously visited terrain, stop searching the old area and move into unexplored generation before blaming the route.

I expected defeating Fader to unlock the biome.
The official FAQ does not document a biome-entry gate. Fader’s reward appears later in the researched Bloodgold route; entry and progression are separate questions.
My old world has no villages or new locations in the north.
Move into genuinely unexplored far-north terrain, or use a fresh world. Previously explored terrain is not promised to regenerate correctly.
Two guides use different names for the same-looking station or tunnel.
Use the names shown in your current game and the official names on this site. Community pages have used Hidden Tunnels for Winding Tunnels and Ember Monument for Eternal Pyre; the route is retained while the alias remains a source conflict.

- SteamDB: Valheim 1.0 patch notes (build 25185596)
Deep North, Kall Fimbulbringer, Winding Tunnels, Mörkhalla, environmental hazards, production pieces, new materials, events and updated Fader Relic functionality shipped in 1.0.
Community reference · Checked . Build-indexed record of Iron Gate’s official 1.0 notes. It confirms released names and broad mechanics, but does not establish the walkthrough order or exact recipes by itself.
- Iron Gate: Valheim 1.0 FAQ
Existing saves continue, reliable biome generation needs unexplored terrain, a fresh start is recommended, and players may travel directly north.
Official publication · Checked . Official launch FAQ. It covers save continuity and world generation; it does not claim that entering Deep North requires Fader.
- PC Gamer: developer-guided Deep North preview
Deep snow, slippery ice, escalating danger, Winding Tunnels and explosive harvesting from defeated Gammeltroll remains were directly observed.
Community reference · Checked . First-hand prelaunch tour conducted with Iron Gate. Useful for qualitative terrain, Winding Tunnels and Gammeltroll preparation; not an independent released-build test or an exact-value source.
- PC Gamer: Valheim 1.0 progression guide
Winding Tunnels lead to key moulds, keys open Mörkhalla, three invasion rewards are used at the Strange Bowl, and Kall drops Sacrificial Blood and a Crown Jewel.
Community reference · Checked . Launch-day progression reference from the same publisher as the key guide, so those two pages count as one source family rather than independent corroboration.
- Postmode: completed Deep North walkthrough
Winding Tunnels, Frostcore production, Fader-reward Ember production, Bloodgold, Intricate Key, Mörkhalla, the Jotun invasion, Malicious Blood and Aesir Passage are described as one route.
Community reference · Checked . Independent launch-day walkthrough based on a completed PS5 playthrough. It conflicts with other sources on some display names, so this edition uses Iron Gate’s official names and avoids treating aliases as separate items.
