Resident NPCs are part of the Civilian objective: players can locate them, persuade them about the threat, and guide them to safety. Conversations can request police calls, direct residents to hiding places, or gain a companion.

Patch 1.0.1 lists police NPC pathing and Resident pathing into Escapes among its fixes. It also fixed a Story Mode issue where an NPC’s struggle-free time while grabbed was not scaling with difficulty.

No detection radius, spawn rate, path schedule, or universal reaction rule is published here. Record map, patch, triggering action, and repeated result first.

Keep the role, map, build, resident instruction, visible destination and intervening obstacles together. Repeat the same instruction before changing one condition. A stuck resident may be a pathing failure; it does not prove the escape is invalid. Keep Story Mode difficulty observations separate from multiplayer.
