Find Haldor, earn coins and buy Megingjord

Pre-1.0 reference · selected 1.0 corrections · Evidence scope ↓

Quick answer

Explore Black Forest regions beyond the starting area until Haldor’s bag icon appears, then establish a return portal nearby. Sell spare valuables and save 950 coins for Megingjord. Equip the belt to add 150 carrying capacity; it adds no inventory slots and replaces your Wishbone or Wisplight while worn.

Search the Black Forest for the trader, turn saved valuables into coins, equip the carrying belt and save for useful later purchases.

Haldor and carrying space

Haldor offers inventory upgrades; Deeper Pockets and Wider Pockets are named in the release. Inspect the current shop and distinguish inventory slots from carrying weight before spending coins.

Still unresolved: Prices, slot gains, prerequisites and interaction with carrying equipment remain unresolved.

Before you start

  • A dependable food, repair and recovery setup from the base routine.
  • Black Forest equipment and a bow through the Bronze Age route. Discovery has no required boss kill, but reaching an unknown island still needs preparation.
  • For a sea search, a repaired Karve or better and portal materials from the portal-and-boat journey.

Search with a route you can retrace

Haldor lives in the Black Forest. The community reference places possible camps at least 1,500 meters from the world center, where the starting Sacrificial Stones stand. Search beyond the immediate starting region. His first discovered camp becomes permanent and a bag icon appears when you approach; no universal direction or starting-island location is guaranteed.

  1. Combine the search with mapped Black Forest exploration. Trace accessible coastline, then scout inland from secure landings so a coastal pass does not leave the island’s interior unchecked.
  2. Mark explored stretches and return points. If a route turns into unfamiliar Plains or a dangerous landing, keep sailing or choose another approach.
  3. At the bag marker, locate the camp and establish a named portal nearby where construction is allowed. Test both directions before leaving the boat.
  4. Leave your spending money at home during the search; bring it through the portal after the route works.

Convert surplus treasure into a purchase budget

Save coins and valuables from Burial Chambers, abandoned-building chests and the dungeons you already know how to clear. Trolls also drop coins, but fighting one solely to finish a small budget is optional. Later crypt and Fuling trips add income while supplying progression materials.

Carry the valuables you intend to sell into the camp and use the shop’s sell control. Put any pieces you want to keep in storage first: sold valuables cannot be bought back. Haldor, Hildir and the Bog Witch pay the same rates.

  • Example budget: 500 saved coins + 10 rubies + 10 amber pearls + 30 amber = 950 coins. These are planning quantities, not guaranteed dungeon loot.
  • Count the money before shopping, and keep a separate reserve for the purchase that matters next. Transport surplus loot with the hauling and storage guide.

Buy and equip the carrying belt

Use the extra capacity for shorter trips between the resource pile and transport. Keep enough room for food, repairs and unexpected drops instead of filling the entire allowance before you begin.

  1. Select Megingjord in Haldor’s shop with at least 950 coins and inventory room, then buy it.
  2. Equip the belt from your inventory and check the carry limit. The normal 300 limit becomes 450 while the belt is equipped.
  3. Keep watching both weight and free slots. More carrying capacity does not create more inventory squares.
  4. Before switching to Wishbone for buried silver or Wisplight for mist, unload below the lower limit. All three use the same accessory slot.

Spend for the next job

The 1.0 release also adds inventory upgrades at Haldor and names Deeper Pockets and Wider Pockets as purchasable upgrades. Inspect his current shop before spending the whole reserve. Their exact prices, unlock requirements and capacity changes are not yet verified here; the table above covers selected older purchases.

Choose against the limit you actually reach: carrying weight and free inventory slots are different problems. These shop purchases are optional projects. For kitchen ingredients sold by a different trader, use the Bog Witch journey.

When something goes wrong

I searched the starting forest and found nothing.

Expand to other Black Forest landmasses and inspect their interiors from safe landings. A single island or coastline does not guarantee discovery.

The belt did not increase my inventory.

Equip it rather than merely carrying it. Check the weight limit, not the number of slots, and make sure Wishbone or Wisplight has not replaced it.

Eggs or another item are missing from the shop.

Check the relevant boss gate in this world. Finding Haldor does not reveal his entire later stock; eggs require Yagluth’s defeat.

My money and belt are in a grave.

Use the established portal with spare food and equipment. Recover the grave on a controlled route, leaving surplus loot behind until you can equip the recovered belt. Do not fund a replacement by taking another unprepared fight.

Next stepUse the extra capacity on a planned haul
