Choose early food, cook meat, and get the Rested effect

Quick answer

Eat three different foods, including cooked meat for health and berries or honey for stamina. Cook early meat on a cooking station over a lit fire. Rest near warmth while dry and safe for 20 uninterrupted seconds, then check for the Rested timer before leaving.

Before you start

  • A hammer and materials for a campfire and cooking station.
  • Foraged food, raw meat, or both; no cauldron or boss drop is required.
  • A sheltered heat source, or a safe dry place to sit near a fire.

Separate food being eaten from food packed for the group

Three active food effects are a departure check, not the whole expedition supply. Decide how many replacement servings each player will carry, then keep a separate recovery meal at home. The quantities below are packing examples, not a prediction of fight length or food consumption.

  1. Ask each player to name three different foods they can use. Do not count three copies of one food as three active slots.
  2. Count cooked meals already available. Keep raw meat and finished meals separate so the same food is not counted twice.
  3. Use the food tool for recipes it lists, with party size and servings per player. A food absent from the tool still needs its own packing note.
  4. Have every player eat and confirm Rested before leaving. Put the recovery meals in reachable storage at the claimed spawn.
Example: three carried servings of each chosen food per player

Fill the three food slots with different items

Food increases your maximum health and stamina. You can have three different foods active; another helping of the same food does not add a separate slot. Choose a combination you can replace regularly rather than saving every useful item for a distant boss fight.

The bonuses fade as time passes. When a food icon starts flashing, that food can be refreshed; the documented threshold is half its duration. Refill before a difficult encounter instead of waiting for an empty slot.

3

Use what the Meadows can supply

For the first short gathering trips, try cooked boar meat, a mushroom, and raspberries. Once you have a hive and can hunt deer, cooked deer meat, cooked boar meat, and honey give you two health-focused foods and one stamina-focused food. These are suggested combinations, not requirements or a claim of a universally best loadout.

Mark productive berry and mushroom spots so a supply trip has a destination. Pick the berries rather than chopping their bushes; destroyed berry bushes do not grow back.

Cook a small batch and collect it promptly

  1. Place and fuel a campfire, then build the cooking station directly over it. Check that the fire stays lit.
  2. Interact with the station to place raw boar meat, deer meat, or a neck tail. Each of these has a documented cooking time of 25 seconds.
  3. Stay nearby and watch for the cooked state, then interact to collect the food. Leaving it cooking too long turns it into coal.
  4. Confirm that the item in your inventory is the cooked version before eating or packing it. Cook the next batch only while you can monitor it.

Cooking station2 WoodHammer; no station required

The first step: place a campfire from the hammer menu (5 stone, 2 wood). Ours lit at Fuel 1/10; pressing E on it added wood, and two pieces raised it to 3/10.

Turn a found queen bee into a repeat food supply

Look for a wild hive in an abandoned Meadows house. Break the hive and collect the queen bee; a bow lets you attack it from outside the structure. Do not assume every house contains a hive.

Use the queen to build a beehive outside your base. Give it open space and check its message during clear daytime. If the bees need more space, move it away from the roof and enclosing walls. Sleeping bees at night or in rain are not by themselves evidence of bad placement.

A working hive is documented to produce one honey about every 20 real-time minutes and hold four. Check it during your return routine so storage capacity does not become the limit. You can continue with raspberries while waiting or searching for a queen.

Rest until the timer appears

Rested increases health regeneration by 50% and stamina regeneration by 100%. Comfort extends its duration; it does not increase those regeneration percentages. A compact functional shelter is enough to start using the benefit. When ready to extend the timer, follow the practical comfort upgrade route.

  1. Return to the shelter and stand in range of the lit fire. Get dry and remove nearby threats.
  2. Look for the Resting effect. Shelter plus warmth allows resting without sitting; outdoors, sit near the fire in a safe dry spot.
  3. Stay in those conditions for 20 uninterrupted seconds, then check for Rested and its remaining time.
  4. Repair and pack before leaving. Recheck the timer after logging in again: Rested does not persist through logout.

Outdoors, sit beside a lit fire (X). Resting appears straight away; after about 24 seconds in our play the Rested effect started with an 8:00 timer at Comfort 1.

If something goes wrong

I cannot eat another serving yet.

Check whether the same food is already active and has not reached its refresh point. Use a different food in an empty slot, or wait for the icon to flash.

The cooking station produces nothing.

Check that raw meat is on the station and that a lit fire is directly underneath. Fix the fire’s fuel, rain protection, or ventilation first.

I get coal instead of dinner.

Collect the meat when it changes to the cooked state. Do not leave an active batch behind while building or sleeping.

Rested never appears.

First establish Resting: be dry, warm, safe, and either sheltered or sitting. Keep those conditions uninterrupted for 20 seconds.

There is no honey when I return.

Check the hive’s daytime placement message and allow production time. A newly placed hive is not an instant food refill.
