THE SHORT ANSWER
Match each boss to its bait or quest trigger, keep the distinctive trophy, and hand it to the right NPC before buying another weapon. Use the route below to go from summon to hand-in, then open each boss section for cover and weapon tips.

Version & evidence notes
1.1.0 adds a mini-boss without giving a complete encounter route. The older Piranha/Tuna and final-boss changes remain dated; prior combat footage cannot validate current balance.

On Forest, trade three Leeches for the encounter bait, defeat the Giant Piranha and return its Skeleton to receive Desert coordinates.
Have these ready
- Unlock Forest through the opening route.
- Collect three ground Leeches for the woman by the lake, and prepare healing, a weapon and room to move.
Three Leeches → encounter bait
Forest: collect three ground Leeches for the woman by the lake. Her Modified Leech summons the Giant Piranha; return its Skeleton for the Desert coordinates.

How to kill the How to Fish Piranha boss ↗Keep a clear movement lane
GamesRadar recommends kiting the Giant Piranha around open ground, firing during clear reload windows, and thinning smaller piranhas when several threaten the route. Its walkthrough says defeated small piranhas can be picked up and eaten to heal.

How to kill the How to Fish Piranha boss ↗Pick up the Skeleton, not meat chunks
Players stuck after Giant Piranha were told to return its distinctive quest trophy rather than meat. Published walkthroughs describe the same separation between the kill and the NPC hand-in.

The boss left
Players identify the white boss bar as an escape timer, and current guides plan around finite encounter windows. If the boss leaves, the attempt did not prove a broken quest.

Pufferfish help — player replies ↗No new destination after the kill
If the next island did not appear, pick up the boss’s distinctive trophy, return to the NPC who supplied the encounter item, finish the dialogue, then check the radar. Ordinary meat chunks usually do not complete passage quests.

Cannot progress from second island ↗What to do after killing Pufferfish on island 3 ↗Evidence & version limits
Bait names differ between the journal reference and the route guide. The live quest prompt takes priority.
Combat advice is attributed reporting, not a tested current-build strategy. A website checklist cannot unlock an island.
These written steps remain usable without video. No continuously reviewed video demonstration is available for this route.

The route at a glance
The main route runs Spider Crab → Giant Piranha → Pufferfish → Tuna and Albatross → Bowhead Whale and the final encounter. Keep the distinctive shell, skeleton, trophy, head or other quest result until the next NPC accepts it.
Reported sources · Will Sawyer / GamesRadar+ · NerdsChalk Staff
Reported guidanceFull How to Fish walkthrough ↘Lures and Baits: Fish Pools and Boss Catches ↘Before casting, confirm four things: the quest is active, the bait is the named item, the fight has room for movement, and the hand-in NPC is known. If the boss does not appear, check those in that order before buying another attachment.
A boss kill is not always the end of the step. Keep the named result, read the next quest prompt, and return to the island NPC before selling or cooking anything unusual.

Giant Piranha — Forest

Pufferfish — Desert
PC Gamer’s author reports success with an upgraded SMG after struggling with the shotgun. Keep moving around the terrain while firing; do not assume a stationary damage race will work.
A launch-day Steam reply recommends circling a tree and avoiding a route that becomes trapped by poison. The original poster later reported winning with help; this does not establish a guaranteed solo method.

Tuna and Albatross — Rocks
All Things How advises placing the defeated Tuna on grass near cover, then using the boathouse or a hut during the Albatross’s overhead attacks. Shoot between passes and return to cover. A sniper is its primary recommendation, with an Uzi as a reported backup. Return the Head to the shop islander.

Whale and the final encounter — Volcano
Reveal spoiler
NerdsChalk describes trading five fish with the scientist for whale bait, defeating the first whale and using it at the volcano to trigger the final form. Follow the live quest prompt rather than the guide’s alternate bait names.
The Steam Bean guide describes using an upgraded SMG alongside prepared explosive damage in the last fight. It is evidence that an assault rifle is not a universally agreed prerequisite, not a verified budget or clear time.

Reveal: complete the Volcano route
Reveal spoiler
GamesRadar’s Island 5 route starts by feeding five fish to the scientist. Collect the Fish Bucket bait and summon Bowhead Whale.
After defeating it, carry its corpse to the summit. Start at the wooden plank near the military encampment, then follow the path across its gaps.
Throw the corpse into the volcano to summon the final encounter, then head back toward the encampment.
After that fight, give the Whale Fin to the scientist. Take the black-boat keys, board that boat and use its mainland-return prompt.
In Zhain Gaming’s 1.0.4 recording, 3:14:24 shows keys offered with a Take prompt; 3:14:29 shows Get back to the mainland at the boat’s helm. A departure scene appears at 3:14:34. These sampled frames do not show the earlier trophy hand-in.

Reported guidanceHOW TO FISH Gameplay FULL GAME Walkthrough No Commentary PC + Ending ↘Follow your current quest dialogue and interaction binding. If an item is refused, check its identity and quest stage before discarding anything. The written route has no named build, and the recording is historical; neither establishes recovery of a missing corpse, fin or key.

A less punishing first clear
Patch 1.0.9 added difficulty changes in the menu and during play. Easy reduces creature health by 25% and damage by 50%; Hard increases both by 25%.
For a co-op attempt, agree who handles nearby threats and who keeps the boss in view. Call out healing and reloads. This is a coordination recommendation, not a tested team composition.

Boss changes in 1.0.12
Patch 1.0.12 rebalanced Piranha and slightly nerfed Tuna. The developer did not publish replacement health or damage values in that announcement. Reviewed 1.0.9 combat footage predates these changes and does not validate current fight timing.
Use the older clips to understand the visible sequence, then compare your difficulty, equipment and result. Current Piranha/Tuna damage, optimal loadouts and clear times remain open evidence questions.

The Islet mini-boss
The Islet Update 1.1.0 added a mini-boss. Patch 1.1.2 fixed its direction-indicator triangles. These notes do not name the encounter or establish its bait, stats or a kill strategy, so the older routes below are not a complete current boss catalogue.
