Before you start
- A spare tamed adult, a protected breeding pair or reserve eggs, and accepted feed for the mount.
- Black forge level 2, six smelted Flametal, twenty Linen thread and four Morgen sinew for the saddle.
- Three foods, rested recovery equipment, a cleared practice area and a known route back to solid ground. Keep your own gear usable if riding ends unexpectedly.
Supply the Black forge and craft one saddle
Connect a Black forge cooler to the Black forge to reach level 2. The Mistlands station guide supplies that forge and extension; an unextended level-1 Black forge is insufficient.
Smelt Flametal ore in the Blast furnace and reserve six bars for this craft. Use the flametal route rather than improvising a lava mining trip for the saddle. Grow Plains flax and spin twenty into twenty Linen thread with the Spinning wheel from the Plains production chain.
Recover four Morgen sinew from Morgen encounters on Ashlands ground or in Putrid holes. Take manageable fights with your established Ashlands kit: clear other enemies, leave room to evade the roll and attack during a recovery opening. A confined hole is not the required source if surface fights are more recoverable. Bring the sinew home before continuing exploration.
Craft the saddle at the level-2 forge. The saddle itself can travel through ordinary portals. Allocate one to a spare adult, keeping your breeders and reserve eggs protected.

Learn camera steering before riding near lava
- Put the saddle in a hotbar slot, aim at the tamed adult and activate that slot to attach it. Aim at the saddled animal and use Interact to mount. Use your current controller or keyboard bindings and the displayed interaction prompts.
- Use forward movement to start walking and backward movement to stop. Practise in a cleared enclosure or open patch of solid ground. Hold the steering control shown by your riding hints while turning the camera toward the intended route; on default mouse controls this is the right mouse button. Direction keys alone do not turn the animal. It cannot reverse, so leave room to turn.
- Practise starting, stopping, turning and dismounting before leaving the safe area. Use short sprints and watch the mount’s stamina and health. Riding skill improves sprint performance over time; a new rider should not plan a route around a veteran rider’s pace.
- You cannot attack while riding an Asksvin. If a fight becomes necessary, reach solid ground with a foot retreat before dismounting. Do not learn the dismount binding at the edge of a lava pool.

Keep the rider on the mount until solid ground
Asksvin are immune to lava damage and can carry a mounted rider across it. They are only resistant to ordinary fire damage, not immune to every Ashlands threat. Enemies can injure or kill the mount, and a dismounted rider is exposed to the lava directly.
Before crossing, inspect the far landing and choose a short route with room to climb onto solid ground. Start with a healthy mount and recovered stamina, and avoid crossings that end among enemies or against a steep bank. Turn back early if the landing becomes unusable; do not stop in lava to fight or remove the saddle.
Fire resistance mead helps with fire damage but does not make direct lava contact safe. Keep Basalt bombs and the temporary-platform escape method available when travelling near lava; those platforms are temporary and are not a promise that a fall or mount death can be rescued.
Treat a lava crossing as a route choice with a possible equipment loss. A tame mount is useful transport, not an invulnerability effect or an automatic solution to a hostile landing.

Ride at home and park behind a barrier
A home-hatched Asksvin can be ridden outside the Ashlands. Move eggs and a saddle through the portal, hatch and grow the animal at the destination, then practise the local route. This uses documented egg transport and does not depend on getting a live adult through a portal or onto a ship.
Riding ignores the rider’s carried weight, but plan cargo you can manage if forced to walk. Keep the hauling and recovery route usable on foot, especially around slopes, water and enemy territory.
Dismount on solid ground inside a secure enclosure and close it before leaving. Tamed animals can become involved in fights; do not assume a dismounted Asksvin will remain harmlessly parked while enemies approach. Feed it and allow passive healing in safety before the next trip; food is not an instant combat heal.
Use the displayed saddle-removal interaction if you want to move the equipment between adults. Store it with replacement gear after use when the pen is exposed to attack, and maintain the separate cold egg reserve.

Separate player recovery from replacing the animal
- If the mount is badly hurt, leave combat for solid ground and the cleared retreat while you still have control. If you must dismount, do so where you can fight or run on foot. Keep dangerous enemies away from the breeding enclosure.
- After a player death, eat and equip the recovery kit before returning through the safe portal. Inspect the death site from defensible ground. A living mount near the site may help only after you can reach and mount it safely.
- If the Asksvin dies, it does not respawn as a mount. Recover accessible equipment only after the area is controlled; inspect the site for the saddle rather than assuming anything dropped in lava can be retrieved. Recraft it if recovery is not practical.
- Restore the nursery and hatch a reserved egg, or use another protected adult. Repair the failed enclosure or choose a safer route before risking the replacement. Do not take the last breeding animal on the same unrecoverable journey.

Handle all three ingredients and check that the Black forge has a connected extension and shows level 2. The craft requires Flametal bars, not ore, and Linen thread, not raw flax.
The animal runs in the wrong direction.
Turn the camera toward the intended route and practise at a walk. It cannot reverse; create turning room instead of backing toward an obstacle.
The mount is hurt despite crossing lava.
Lava immunity does not cover enemy attacks or all fire damage. Reach solid ground, disengage and feed the animal in safety; do not dismount into lava to defend it.
The mount or saddle was lost at an inaccessible site.
Preserve the surviving breeding line and use stored eggs for a replacement. Recraft the saddle if necessary; a corpse or item marker in lava does not establish a safe recovery route.

Use the success check to finish this job, restock any reserves you used and return to the supporting journeys or your current boss objective.
