Vantom and Kaiser Crab: prepare for their mechanics

Use hit counts against Slippery and facing against Surround.

Early Access · Main 0.107.1 baseline; Beta 0.111.0 changes marked · Updated 2026-09-12

The short answer

Vantom rewards many damage instances before a large finisher. Kaiser Crab requires you to control which claw you face when ending the turn. Read live intents for your difficulty and party size.

Before you start

  • This page covers tactics, not a verified move-by-move table for every Ascension.
  • Launch-era guides are cross-checked against official changes; use current tooltips for numbers.

Strip Vantom’s Slippery efficiently

Slippery reduces incoming damage instances while its stacks remain. Use cheap or multi-hit attacks to remove stacks before committing a large hit. Twin Strike is one published example. Keep watching the rising attack pressure and Wounds entering the deck.

The launch guide reports nine starting stacks in standard solo play. Co-op scaling changed in Main 0.107.1, so this wiki does not use nine as a universal value. Read the counter in your fight.

End facing the claw that threatens you most

Kaiser Crab places a claw on each side. Surround makes a hit from behind more dangerous. Save a targeted action that lets you finish facing the heavy attacker, even if earlier attacks focused the opposite claw.

Kingy turn plan: identify the larger displayed attack, choose your damage target, then reserve the final targeting action before spending all Energy. Recheck facing and both intents before ending. When one claw falls, the other gains a large defensive buffer; avoid assuming the first kill ends the fight.

Why an old Doormaker route may not match

Major Update #2 removed Doormaker and introduced Aeonglass. A walkthrough that still treats Doormaker as a current encounter is using older content. The complete current boss roster and tested high-Ascension move tables remain on the expansion list.
