The short answer

Melee hits replenish your combat-ability resource. Abilities can create execution openings, and executions temporarily strengthen melee damage. Build around a loop you can perform consistently before optimising individual bonuses.

Practise the developer-described loop

This describes Remedy’s announced system, not guaranteed behaviour for every enemy or a claim of invulnerability during an execution.

  1. Land melee hits when it is safe to rebuild resource.
  2. Use an ability to create an opening.
  3. Use an available execution to gain the temporary melee benefit.
  4. Return to melee pressure while watching incoming attacks.

Make one deliberate upgrade change

The Gap is the build space outside combat. The developer describes a DualSense down-direction input; check your own bindings. Weapon Forms, Combat Abilities and Talents work together, while Game Informer’s preview reports that respec uses a resource. Its final cost is not verified.

  1. Identify what failed in the last encounter: range, damage opportunity, resource use or survival.
  2. Inspect the available descriptions and choose one change that addresses that problem.
  3. Recheck the loadout before leaving. The preview reports that choices are fixed outside the Gap.

Read the conditions on an Artifact

Artifacts add passive modifiers and may include conditions or trade-offs. Find untapped Artifacts in the world and craft usable ones in the Gap. Choose for the situation you need to solve; the launch edition does not yet have verified recipes or drop routes.

One previewed Resonant reward offers Barrage for ranged rocks, Seekers for a summon, or Shield for protection with an offensive dash use. These are reported choices from the preview, not a complete reward table. Check the retail descriptions before committing.
