The short answer
Craft a Repair Kit at a Tier 1 or higher Workbench, equip it and choose the damaged item from its repair menu. Read the current kit description before confirming.
Before you start
- Recipe: 2 Linen Scraps, 1 Iron Ingot and 1 Light Leather.
- A crafting station does not provide unlimited free repairs.
Collect the three component types
| Component | Source |
|---|---|
| Linen Scraps | Early enemies such as Skeleton Fighters, Goblin Scrappers and Trorks. |
| Iron Ingot | Smelt Iron Ore with fuel. |
| Light Leather | Process Light Hide from suitable small animals at the rack. |

Repair deliberately
Place the kit on the hotbar, use it and inspect the target in the selection menu. Backpack items are supported in Update 5 and later. The Crude Repair Kit description was also revised in that update, so use its live text for durability consequences.
Kingy planning example: repairing a tool that barely lost durability consumes resources that could keep a nearly depleted weapon usable. Compare the remaining durability, replacement cost and next trip before spending a kit.
