The short answer
Make a Workbench and Furnace, prepare basic gear, then activate Memories at the Forgotten Temple before a long exploration trip. Your world’s landmarks determine the route.
Before you start
- This edition uses stable Update 6, hotfix 0.6.5.
- For a first learning world, Kingy recommends leaving Hardcore off.
Establish a useful return point
Use inventory crafting for the first Workbench: 4 Tree Trunks and 3 Stones. Add a Furnace for ore and a Tanning Rack for hides. These facilities turn exploration loot into equipment.
Kingy’s suggested priorities are a visible shelter, a clear storage system and one equipment goal for the next trip. Put building materials away before leaving so ore and drops have room.
Choose the next trip
- Inspect nearby cave entrances and bring lighting, a pickaxe and a weapon.
- Return and process your first ore instead of repeatedly extending the same trip.
- Find the Forgotten Temple map icon and activate Memories.
- Record landmarks in your own world; another seed’s coordinates are not a route.

Make progress against a specific gate
If specialist stations are missing, check the main Workbench tier. If a recipe is visible but unavailable, read its materials and station requirements. A more expensive weapon does not automatically solve a crafting unlock.
