The short answer
Build a Farmer’s Workbench, gather your first Essence of Life from wild crops, then use it for seeds. Till, plant, water and harvest a small plot before expanding.
Before you start
- Farmer’s Workbench: 6 Tree Trunks and 20 Plant Fiber.
- Check the exact ingredient names; farming recipes have changed during Early Access.
Make the first planting sustainable
- Gather Plant Fiber while clearing the site.
- Craft the farming tools you need and harvest mature wild crops for starting Essence.
- Buy available seeds, till dirt and plant them.
- Water the planted soil and wait for the harvest prompt.
- Reserve some Essence for replanting rather than spending every unit on expansion.

Choose the right trees and tools
When a recipe asks for Softwood, look for Beech or Aspen rather than assuming Oak is equivalent. Update 4 added growth stages and seeds for tree species; Apples now come from Apple trees.
Copper and Iron Sickles can be crafted at the Farming Workbench for repeated crop harvesting. Recipe ingredients were made more specific in Update 4, which is why this guide avoids copying an old generic-material table.

Expand after one successful cycle
Kingy planning suggestion: keep a path between crop rows, a chest for seed stock and enough open space to interact with plants. Record your actual yield and growth time before choosing a crop for a larger farm. This edition does not publish a universal growth timer or an untested profit ranking.
