Plan the dress

Dressmaker first dress: a checklist from brief to delivery

The short answer

Start with the full brief, use the right customer’s measurements, identify each panel before cutting and check the finished values before delivery. Keep your first design easy to follow: one main fabric and a clear plan for any contrasting pieces.

1. Keep the whole brief beside you

Read the customer’s occasion, budget, requested qualities and any colour or material instructions before shopping. Seerolz’s player guide explains that a maximum is a ceiling, not another score to raise. A sketch that looks promising is still a plan; fabric and finishing also contribute to the result.

  1. Write down the customer and commission name.
  2. Record each minimum, maximum and special condition separately.
  3. Note what you already own before listing new purchases.

2. Match the customer, then choose the pieces

Follow the customer measurement and mannequin stages before drafting. For a returning customer, Seerolz describes loading their saved set beneath Confirm; check the name before continuing. In the sketchbook, click the component names to inspect their choices. Build 410 makes those clickable labels clearer.

For a first attempt, Kingy suggests choosing the main silhouette before adding contrasting fabrics. Fewer separate decisions make it easier to spot a misplaced panel later.

3. Check the selected fabric before cutting

Use the sketchbook’s colours and fabric samples to record your design. At the cutting table, hover over an inventory panel: Build 410 adds a hint showing where it belongs on the mannequin. Match that location to your intended fabric, and inspect the displayed Grain Quality before committing the cut.

Work through one planned fabric group at a time. If you cannot identify a panel confidently, pause here and use the fabric-planning guide below.

4. Make sewing comfortable

Sewing Assist is worth trying whenever steering the stitch feels difficult. Seerolz recommends the setting, and Emiiary covers it in the chapter below. It is an available aid, not a promise of perfect quality. Build 410 also lets you choose thread colour by clicking the spools in the sewing scene.

Start at the creator’s Sewing Assist chapter (6:08). Description and transcript checked; the recorded build is unspecified.

5. Check the dress, then continue

After sewing and decorating, compare the displayed result with every line of the brief. If a style target is short, inspect relevant accessory tags before scrapping the dress; Steam players report closing some gaps this way. Recheck maximums as well as minimums after each change.

Record the customer’s actual response after delivery. When you are ready for another customer, ring the shop bell: that is the progression change documented in Build 403.
