The short answer
First distinguish a locked release from a failed installation. For an installed, unlocked copy, restart the PC, check updates and SSD space, then verify the game files. Keep your saves before escalating to reinstalling.
Before you start
- Your storefront and edition
- The error message or a repeatable symptom
Identify what is failing
| Symptom | First check |
|---|---|
| Preload or Play button is missing | Check your storefront, edition and local unlock time in the release guide. Preload does not itself grant early access. |
| Download or installation fails | Check free SSD space and use the launcher’s verification or repair option. |
| Crash, freeze or low frame rate | Check the final requirements, Windows updates and your GPU vendor’s current driver. |
| Only one objective is stuck | Record the objective and reproduction steps for Remedy support. |
Verify the installed files
Let verification finish, restart the launcher and retry. Remedy’s installation article also covers runtime components and a clean reinstall if the problem persists. Use its linked Microsoft and GPU-vendor downloads.
| Storefront | Menu path |
|---|---|
| Steam | Library → CONTROL Resonant → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files |
| Epic Games Store | Library → game’s three-dot menu → Manage → Verify |

Make one stability change at a time
Keep notes of the resolution, preset, driver and scene. These are official troubleshooting checks, not tested optimal settings or an FPS promise. Ask support before advanced driver-removal procedures if the routine steps fail.
- Restart the PC and install pending Windows updates.
- Check the final hardware requirements and leave SSD room for updates.
- Install the appropriate current driver from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel.
- Temporarily close extra recording tools and overlays, then retry the same scene.
- If you use custom overclocks or undervolts, test the normal settings.

Copy your saves before a disruptive repair
Close the game and its launcher, then copy the complete relevant folder to a separate backup location. Keep the original in place. For a non-default Steam install, start in that installation’s userdata directory.
- Choose the account folder that contains your Resonant saves.
- Copy the folder without renaming or removing its contents.
- If Player Support requests it, ZIP the copy and attach it through the official support channel.
| Storefront | Remedy’s documented location |
|---|---|
| Steam | C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<STEAM-USER-ID>\3669870\ |
| Epic Games Store | %LocalAppData%\Remedy\CONTROLResonant\<EPIC-USER-ID>\ |

Send a report that can be investigated
Open Remedy’s CONTROL Resonant Help Center and use the support chat for a bug or crash report. Include the storefront or console, mission or area, exact error, steps to reproduce it and recent loadout changes.
For PC issues, support can request DxDiag, MSInfo and a save copy. The reporting article permits direct attachments under 25 MB and gives separate instructions for larger files. Keep account credentials and unused redemption codes out of public screenshots.
