WoW Forever setup, platforms and access troubleshooting

Windows and Mac requirements, controller options and checks for missing access.

QUICK ANSWER

Forever is announced for Windows and Mac and requires internet access, a Battle.net account and the Battle.net desktop app. Official gamepad support is confirmed. If access is missing, check the date, the specific WoW account and the benefit you own before reinstalling.

What you need to play #

Use the official Battle.net download link on Blizzard’s site when you need the desktop app. Do not assume that a previous Classic installation proves compatibility with every Forever graphics option. A Windows/Mac listing also does not establish native Linux or console support.

Check missing access in this order #

The final Forever installation selector and beta menu path have not been verified. This page therefore gives entitlement checks without presenting an invented client walkthrough.

  1. Check the relevant window: beta starts September 17 (product terms end October 21; roadmap says October 22); launch is November 4; friend-code access ends November 11.
  2. Confirm the Battle.net login and the specific WoW account. Skyborne and name-reservation benefits apply to the WoW account the pack was purchased for.
  3. Check the entitlement itself: Heroic does not include beta; Epic and Collection do. An opt-in is not an invitation.
  4. If using a friend code, confirm the recipient has not bought a Forever upgrade, the code is not already redeemed and the redemption date is no later than November 11.
  5. Check the current official access instructions and service notices before changing files or reinstalling.

Controller and graphics choices #

These are announced options. Exact keybinds, supported controller models, accessibility presets and their menu locations need hands-on verification. No recommended graphics preset or frame-rate claim is published without hardware and build measurements.

Prepare a useful support request #

These are general diagnostic preparation steps, not a claimed fix for an untested Forever error. Keep a copy of the exact error before changing settings; it is more useful than “the game does not work.”

  1. Write down the exact error message and whether the problem is account access, installing, opening the game or entering a realm.
  2. Record your operating system and, if the client opens, the game build. Include the steps that trigger the error.
  3. For a missing friend code, check the registered email’s spam folder and that the order status is Complete in Battle.net Transaction History. Failed orders do not receive codes.
  4. Use Blizzard Support for account and order issues. Do not post passwords, unused codes or private order information in a public wiki comment.
