The short answer
Initiative determines a character’s place on the Timeline. In the developer’s July 2025 explanation, damaging hits cause Distraction and lower Initiative; dropping below zero immediately ends a current turn. Read the updated timeline after attacks instead of assuming a fixed party-then-enemy order.
The published turn-order rules
The developer also describes a temporary advantage for the team that starts combat and longer effects such as Dazzle. No exact Distraction amount or initiation bonus is established in this guide.
| Event | Developer-described consequence |
|---|---|
| Higher Initiative | Earlier position on the Timeline |
| Equal Initiative | Initially randomized; acting moves a unit behind others tied with it |
| Damaging hit | Distraction reduces the target’s Initiative |
| Initiative falls below zero | The current turn ends, even with action or movement points left |
| Turn finishes | Initiative resets; subsequent damage can reduce it again |

Check a prediction before committing
The UI is described as separating Current Round and Next Round. Asuke’s published role includes moving allies and enemies along this order. A turn-control action therefore needs a timing check as well as a damage comparison.
- Find the target and the next allied unit on the Timeline.
- Read the selected skill’s current effect and cost.
- Consider whether delaying that target would prevent an important action.
- After the action, check the changed Initiative and upcoming portraits.

If the target still gets a turn
A reduction is not automatically a cancelled turn: the developer’s cancellation condition is below zero. Some character passives resist Initiative loss. Read the resulting value and active effects, and avoid a strategy that requires an unverified fixed reduction.
