Into the Den and the Silver Trader: find the letter and sell silver

Open marked sections to reveal solutions or story details.

The short answer

The reported early route is Into the Den: read the corpse’s Tattered Letter, recover Letter with a Tip from the marked cache, then tell the Silver Trader in Svartrau that you know his business. Other reporting describes Infamy IV as an alternative, so check your current dialogue before assuming both are required.

Before you start

  • For the letter route, reach the Ravenous Bear’s den in the peat-bog area northwest of Laslea Glen and prepare for a fight. The cache interaction is reported to spend one time segment; read the live prompt before accepting.
  • Svartrau access is post-prologue. Into the Den is reported to remain available afterward, so this is not a requirement to crowd every step into the opening day.
  • September written walkthroughs; exact executable versions and tested platforms are unspecified. Kingy has not fought the bear, opened the shop or completed a silver sale.

Check which introduction you already have

The sources tested or described different starting states. PC Gamer reports an early refusal without the quest; PowerPyx calls level IV necessary. KeenGamer explicitly lists alternatives. These reports support a state check, not a controlled proof of every unlock combination.

Keep a save before combat. PC Gamer recommends parrying ordinary strikes and sidestepping the red-skull unblockable attack. Watch stamina and take a short opening instead of chaining attacks while depleted. A better sword can help, but no named weapon is established as a prerequisite.

  1. After the Ravenous Bear falls, inspect the body at the back of the cave.
  2. Take and read the Tattered Letter. Check that Into the Den points you to the cache search area. This first note provides the treasure clue; it is not Letter with a Tip.

Into the Den cache · quest spoilers

Quest spoilers. The map and hut approach lead to a cache containing Letter with a Tip. Sampled native-player frames show the loot list at 1:47 and the reading screen at 1:57. Use the written steps below if the video is unavailable.

Evidence and limits

Native-player frame review from 1:02 to 1:57 in five-second samples. At 1:07 the cache objective displays a one-hourglass marker; at 1:47 the loot list includes Letter with a Tip; at 1:57 the note mentions Neustadt. This is a visual locator and letter aid, not a tested time delta, merchant unlock or post-prologue recovery.

An opened hole is not your final check: confirm the letter is actually in your records or inventory. If it is missing, inspect the cache’s remaining loot before making the trip to Svartrau. No guaranteed late retrieval or reset procedure is established here.

  1. Follow the search area to the old logging site. Look for the small hut with a door at the western edge of the search area.
  2. Inside, find the painted X and inspect the flat stones beneath it. Read the time-cost prompt before digging.
  3. Loot the exposed cache and check for Letter with a Tip. Read the lead and inspect the quest journal before leaving.

Find the trader and confirm a sale

PC Gamer identifies a white chalice on inventory items as the silver-contraband marker. This guide names one documented buyer, not a verified census of every merchant. Prices, stock and a best-money farming route remain outside the evidence.

  1. In southwest Svartrau, look in Neustadt for the Silver Trader’s house. His map marker is a white goblet; enter through the street door.
  2. For the letter route, choose the dialogue indicating you know he trades in silver. Check that the shop opens.
  3. Select a silver item, inspect the offered price and quantity, then sell only what you intend. Check the item count and currency afterward.

If the chain does not advance

If the NPC is absent or dead, preserve an earlier save and record that state. This route does not establish a replacement buyer, respawn or recovery after killing him.
