How to select a second character with the Matchmaker

The short answer

Build the Matchmaker, then select a primary character and an available partner, as DCRage reports.

Before you start

  • A completed Matchmaker on the save you are playing. See the construction guide below if its meter is unfinished.
  • Reported Xbox Store instructions checked September 27, 2026; exact current platform/build behavior has not been tested by Kingy.

Check your pair before starting

  1. Choose your primary character, then a selectable partner.
  2. Before starting, check that the selection screen shows the pair you intended. Record any rejection message instead of assuming a guide's recommended combination works on your build.
  3. Start the run and inspect its initial equipment and controls before planning a longer attempt.

Why is a partner unavailable?

DCRage reports incompatible partners are darkened and rejected. Choose another partner if the game refuses.
