Fusion or evolution: what each choice does

The short answer

Fusion combines ball abilities; evolution turns a particular set of balls into a new ball. Kenny Sun explains that an evolved ball can also be fused. Fusion is therefore not restricted to combining two already-evolved balls.

Before you start

  • Base-game mechanics explained by the developer; this page does not supply a tested recipe list.

Choose for the result you want

Before committing, read the result shown in your game's selection screen. Check the selected ingredients and whether the result is the new ball you intended. Keep a screenshot when comparing a recipe from an older guide with your current version.

Why is Fusion unavailable?

Reports disagree on Fusion: DCRage requires level 3; Dayngls says it is unnecessary. Inspect the available choices before spending upgrades. Kingy has not tested the current gate.

  1. For an Evolution attempt, upgrade its intended ingredients to level 3. Inspect Fusion earlier if it is available.
  2. Collect a Fusion Reactor dropped by an enemy during the run.
  3. Inspect Fusion for an eligible pair, or Evolution for a recipe's named result. Confirm the displayed ingredients before committing.
  4. If you want upgrades instead, inspect Fission: the reports describe it improving balls or passives.

Check rules for your installed version

Exact level gates, selection-order effects, exclusions and recipe changes need current-build evidence. This guide does not turn the developer's broad explanation into a promise that every pair is selectable in every situation.
