01 / Field notes

Its stated mission

The Foundation’s introductory mission statement presents secrecy as a way to preserve ordinary life. It describes securing anomalies, limiting their effects, and protecting both humanity and the anomalies while research continues. This is the institution’s account of its purpose; individual stories can challenge its justification.

Reading the institution

SCP reports are written from inside this fictional bureaucracy. Their procedures and classifications tell you what the institution thinks it can control. Read the narrator’s assumptions as part of the story, then compare a different work through Canon Lens.

The Foundation is fictional. The SCP Wiki is the real collaborative writing community credited on the source page. Its many contributors write different interpretations of the institution; Kingy is an independent guide to those works.
