Windrose seeds will not plant: unlock and use a seedbed

The short answer

Owning seeds does not establish that their planting recipe is unlocked. Check progression, collect Fertile Soil, then build a Seedbed and plant through the Farming menu. These are dated April–May PC reports, not a Kingy test of the current client.

Before you start

  • Record your build, solo or co-op role, completed boss objective and Discovery page.
  • Read the current Seedbed and crop recipe before spending materials.

Check progression as well as soil

In the May player discussion, one explorer owned Fertile Soil but still could not plant. Replies identify the first boss as a Foothills recipe gate. This is player guidance, not a verified rule for every current co-op state.

  1. Check your own completed first-boss objective rather than a teammate's progress.
  2. At an Ancient Farm in the Foothills, use a pickaxe on the farmland patches and collect Fertile Soil.
  3. Reopen the build menu's Farming tab and look for Seedbed.

Run one planting cycle

Kingy recommends recording seeds before planting and all items received after harvest. This guide makes no promise about growth time, seed replacement, offline production or contractor output.

  1. Build one Seedbed using the recipe displayed in your game.
  2. Return to Farming, choose a crop for which you have seeds, and place it on the bed.
  3. Wait until the plant is mature, then use its harvest interaction.

Recipe unlocked, but placement still fails?

The later May 17 patch, 0.10.0.6, reports corrected plant snapping to soil patches and a fix for dropped items falling through player-built patches. It does not prove that every failed planting attempt was that bug, or verify an older guide's recipe on today's build.

  1. Capture the selected plant, current bed, placement preview and exact rejection text.
  2. Separate a missing recipe from an unlocked recipe that rejects the target. Compare the installed version with the patch history before reporting a persistent placement fault.
