The short answer
Valor Mortis is a first-person action Soulslike by One More Level, the studio behind Ghostrunner. You play a resurrected soldier in an alternate 19th-century Europe, using melee weapons, firearms and supernatural abilities. This edition covers announced systems; a tested opening walkthrough is still to come.
What kind of game is it?
The official description combines demanding combat with Metroidvania-inspired levels. That gives the prelaunch guide two useful starting points: how fights are described, and how new abilities may change exploration. It does not establish a complete map, all character builds or every ending.
The platform listings advertise a single-player experience. The first-person view is a central part of the design; familiarity with another Soulslike is not evidence that its inputs, death penalties or progression rules carry over.

A preparation checklist for your first session
Kingy's suggested approach is to inspect the actual controls and camera options before importing someone else's settings. Once the game is available, check the current weapon's defensive actions and use the tutorial to learn their cues. This is preparation advice, not a tested route or a recommended preset.
Exact parry windows, resource losses on death, upgrade costs and irreversible choices need release-build evidence. This guide does not fill those gaps with rules borrowed from other games.
