The short answer
Official listings describe parries, dashes and finishers alongside weapons and supernatural abilities. Weapon choice can change defense: the developer said the demo Rapier relies on perfectly timed parries. Exact inputs, timing windows and launch balance have not been tested by Kingy.

Check the weapon before copying defensive advice
In the July demo update, the developer distinguishes the Rapier from the Sabre: the Rapier defends through perfect parries and can target weakpoints without a firearm. A tactic described for one weapon therefore should not be assumed to work identically with another.
That statement explains the demo design. It does not prove the final Rapier's damage, defensive timing or optimal setup. Check the weapon description in the build you are actually playing.

Cues and camera behavior are still part of the launch check
Developer feedback posts discuss clearer windups and audio cues, more distinct block/parry feedback, revised bindings and target-lock behavior. The later August update also identifies readability and hitbox range as improvement areas.
Those are development goals rather than measured results. Kingy's suggested first practice is to identify one attack's visual and audio cue, try the available defensive action, and compare a success with a failure. Keep the weapon and assist settings the same while learning.
