Purchase and access

Modern Warfare 4 editions, Campaign early access and Vault upgrades

The short answer

Digital Standard includes the base game and supports a separate Vault upgrade. Vault is digital-only and already includes Digital Standard. Physical copies cannot upgrade to Vault. Campaign early access is advertised for digital preorders or prepurchases from October 16 PT; the October 23 launch target does not make Multiplayer or DMZ available early.

Before you start

  • Check the exact regional store, platform account and purchase format. These are announced access rules; Kingy has not verified an installed retail build or your entitlement.

Choose the edition and purchase format first

If you want the base game, compare Standard with the digital Vault package. Vault adds the Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator Packs, Signature Weapon Collection, one Season of BlackCell and a DMZ Deployment Bonus. The publisher has not yet detailed that DMZ bonus, so it cannot support a deployment or loadout recommendation.

An upgrade adds Vault content to Digital Standard; it is not a replacement base-game purchase. If you already have Vault, a second Vault upgrade is unnecessary for that package. Use the detailed Activision rule when a storefront summary says that Standard owners can upgrade without specifying format.

Match the named platform, not a Cross-Gen label

Activision names Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2 for the October 23, 2026 launch. The detailed physical-copy section names Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 through select retailers. It does not establish a physical Switch 2 format.

Xbox explicitly excludes Xbox One. A Cross-Gen label alone does not establish Xbox One or PlayStation 4 entitlement. Verify the exact version in the applicable store; do not buy on the assumption that an old console or a different PC store is included.

The publisher says purchases through the Xbox Series X|S store or Xbox PC store provide both versions through Xbox Play Anywhere, with internet and applicable PC requirements. That statement does not grant Steam, Battle.net, PlayStation or Switch 2 copies, nor establish a physical-disc route.

Keep the Campaign window separate from full launch

Any digital-edition preorder or prepurchase on any platform meets the advertised purchase condition for early access to the full Campaign, starting October 16 PT. Standard meets that format condition; the FAQ does not require Vault for it. For digital PC prepurchases, Activision separately announces preload beginning October 15 at 9 AM PT; a preload is not early Multiplayer or DMZ access.

October 23, 2026 is the advertised full-launch date. Campaign early access does not establish early Multiplayer or DMZ access. The publisher qualifies play time for outages, time-zone differences and changing platform availability or start dates. No exact start hour or working session is verified here.

  1. Read the exact product title and confirm digital purchase format.
  2. Confirm the preorder/prepurchase belongs to the account and platform you will use.
  3. Recheck that platform’s current access notice near October 16; distinguish a Campaign entitlement from another mode.
  4. If access is missing, retain your purchase receipt and account/platform details for the relevant store or Activision support.

Check when Vault content and BlackCell are granted

Vault is a package of content with different availability dates. The listed Operator Packs and Signature Weapon Collection are advertised for MW4 launch and for Warzone beginning in Season 1. They are not all immediate grants in every current game.

Vault includes one Season of BlackCell. For preorders or prepurchases, it is advertised at Season 1. For purchases or upgrades after launch, the detailed FAQ says it is granted at the first new Season after the transaction. Do not assume a later upgrade grants the current Season or every future Season.

The Battle Pass, COD Points and Tier Skips become accessible in MW4 when the Season 1 Battle Pass is available in-game. The source does not establish Season 1’s date. Record your transaction timing and compare the current entitlement notice before expecting a reward.

On Xbox, check ownership and subscription separately

The Xbox page separates game purchase from online and cloud services. It supplies no future Game Pass catalogue date. Check the current plan, supported region, account and hardware before treating a cloud or online listing as available to you.

Activision’s console footnote also names PlayStation Plus and Nintendo Switch Online for the applicable console’s social features and online modes. The FAQ requires a continuous internet connection for Multiplayer, including Private Matches, and DMZ. Texture-streaming wording across all modes does not by itself certify offline Campaign access.

Resolve account or checkout problems before another purchase

The published 10% Vault loyalty offer applies to eligible direct Vault preorders or prepurchases on the same platform account where a qualifying title was owned and played, with additional stated subscription or claimed-title routes. It explicitly excludes Vault upgrades. Eligibility, participating stores and offer timing still apply; if an expected discount is absent, use the platform support linked in Activision’s FAQ before paying again.

An Activision account is required under the Xbox terms, and a linked mobile phone number may be required. The edition FAQ also describes banned-account restrictions: purchasing through a different store does not remove an online-play restriction, and applicable permanently banned Battle.net accounts cannot purchase through the Blizzard Digital Store. Consult the exact account restriction in the FAQ rather than buying another copy as a workaround.

For PC, compare your machine with Activision’s September 29 launch specifications and record the advertised TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot status before selecting a purchase. The connected PC guide explains read-only checks and how to route a mismatch. A matching status does not confirm full compatibility or retail game performance.
