Chapter 5 walkthrough: Scars of Time (Mysidia, the ruins and the tower)

Quick answer

Chapter 5, 'Scars of Time', starts with the airship: board it outside the imperial capital, then 'Find Mysidia', which also opens a lot of optional content. A vortex brings the airship to Mysidia; you go to Sakura's house, the potion factory and the village of Sunioo, and a Slagworm (Lv.33) waits on the snowfield. In the Nameless Ruins you beat two minions, then Tellus (Lv.39) in a scripted fight, after which Archwitch Fina joins. The Arcane Library (Recommended Level 36) has five monster tomes and Byblos (Lv.36) in the forbidden wing. Finally you enter Fina's psyche and the Tower of Mysidia and fight Tellus again.

The airship and the search for Mysidia

Reveal solution / story details

The chapter opens with 'Board the airship outside the imperial capital', and Lid learns the Limit Burst Enterprise Airstrike. The objective then becomes 'Find Mysidia'.

With the airship you can now reach a lot of optional content before Mysidia. CGInferno fights Ifrit (see the Esper locations page) and other optional bosses, visits Pyroviper Cave (Recommended Level 37; see Cave Masters) and several Vision sanctums, takes side quests, and fights an unnamed purple beast on the airship deck. None of these are needed for the story.

  1. Board the airship outside the imperial capital.

Sakura, the potion factory and Sunioo

On the way the airship is pulled into a vortex and arrives at Mysidia, and the objective becomes 'Go to Sakura's house'. On the snowfield you fight a Slagworm. Its info card reads Lv.33, Insectoid, 90,000 HP, with the trait 'Swallows target, rendering them unable to act for a while.' CGInferno's win paid 18,000 EXP, 13,000 gil and a Mist X-Potion.

  1. Go to Sakura's house.

The Nameless Ruins and Tellus (Lv.39)

Reveal solution / story details

Sakura points south-west to the old castle: 'Go to the Nameless Ruins', 'Go deeper into the Nameless Ruins', then 'Defeat the minions in the Nameless Ruins'. The first minion, an armoured giant, shows no name label in the frames we checked; the second is Liquid Flame (Lv.34), whose win paid 10,000 EXP, 5,200 gil, 65 MRP and a Flame Scroll II.

Deeper in you fight Tellus (Lv.39, Humanoid, 135,000 HP on the info card). The fight fades out with no result screen, so it appears to be scripted. Afterwards 'Fina left the party.' and 'Archwitch Fina joined the party!' appear.

  1. Go to the Nameless Ruins and head deeper.
  2. Defeat both minions.
  3. Face Tellus; the fight ends on its own.

Boss weaknesses and what to watch for

Reveal solution / story details

From NiaMeowDB's datamine (Community-reported; built from the game's files, no version stated), except Byblos, which it doesn't list.

Slagworm (Lv.33): weak to Wind, immune to Earth, and swallows a target so it can't act for a while. Liquid Flame (Lv.34): weak to Ice and Water, absorbs Fire, has high physical defense and counters physical attacks, so magic from Ice or Water is the safer way in.

Tellus (Lv.39): weak to Wind and takes half damage from Earth; it counterattacks when you break its rules of engagement. Byblos's own card warns that it becomes enraged when its stagger gauge is reduced. The Archwitch Fina you fight (Lv.38) is weak to Water and Light, takes half damage from Dark, uses Paradise Lost to strengthen Dark and unleashes full power at low HP.
