The short answer
Check your game version first. In the developer’s 0.4.1 notes, masters keep crafting ingredients unless storage is completely full and use only empty carts. The cart rule is temporary; it does not reserve an empty cart for you.
Before you start
- These are purchased-game Early Access 0.4.1 notes; their applicability to an older demo is not verified.
- Kingy has reviewed the developer’s changes, but has not reproduced the fixes in gameplay.
Find a missing ingredient in the Marketplace
The September 17 update adds these search, stock-filter and tooltip controls. It also reduces stock and replenishment of several valuable inputs, including Silver Ingot and Oakwood Board, without publishing a restock schedule. An empty market listing alone does not establish a master-crafting bug.
- Open the Marketplace and search for the ingredient you need.
- Show out-of-stock items as well as available stock. An item hidden by that filter is different from a recipe that will not craft.
- Read the item's buy/sell price breakdown in its tooltip before buying or selling. The release update ties prices to supply, demand, season, skills and building improvements.

Use a cart again after an ambush
In 0.4.1, the developer says Denounce now applies Vigilant Driver, which lets you use the attacked cart again that turn without another attack. This does not establish recovery of stolen cargo or protection on later turns.
Fight is a separate choice: 0.4.1 fixes it being offered to caravans without an escort. The patch does not promise an escorted victory. Its reduced ambush frequency is also not a guarantee that a valuable cart will arrive safely.
- When your cart is attacked by robbers, choose Denounce for the documented Vigilant Driver outcome.
- Check for the Vigilant Driver status before relying on that protection.
- Use that cart again during the same turn; the developer describes protection from another attack for that turn.

If the problem continues
Record the game version, business, selected recipe, storage state and whether the cart was empty when the master used it. These observations help distinguish the documented exceptions from a possible remaining bug.
Follow the bug-report link in the cited release announcement to THQ Nordic’s project tracker. Include what you expected, what happened and the steps that led to it. The checklist here is a reporting aid; it is not a tested repair.
The hotfix also names version_0.4.0 for players who want the previous version. Its notes do not establish that a save made on 0.4.1 can safely be rolled back. Check the separate save guide before treating a branch change as a fix.
