Before you start
- Confirm this is the purchased Early Access game, not the earlier demo.
- Keep the original save before trying a new game or version branch.
Choose the right save version
| Save or problem | What the official notes establish |
|---|---|
| Purchased-game save from before 0.4.5 | Ashborne says old saves should be compatible; this is an expectation, not a Kingy-tested guarantee. |
| Problem after updating from 0.4.1 | The developer names version_0.4.1 as a fallback. Preserve the original first; it does not promise that a save written by 0.4.5 will load in 0.4.1. |
| Earlier demo save | The separately retained demo_0.3.0 branch is for the old demo. It is not the purchased game's 0.4.1 fallback or proof of demo-to-paid transfer. |

What happens to autosaves?
Update 0.4.5 keeps four autosaves per playthrough rather than ten. The developer explicitly says it does not delete manual saves. It does not specify which older autosave snapshots remain after updating or promise to recover one that has already been replaced.
If a manual-save option is available in your installed game, make a distinct save and confirm it appears in the load list before experimenting with an update or older branch. Kingy has not tested the menu or a file-level backup path.

If a purchased-game save does not load
Ashborne suggests a new game or version_0.4.1 if old saves cause problems. Neither option is a demonstrated conversion or recovery procedure, and Kingy has not tested save compatibility across branches.
- Keep the original save and record which game version last opened it.
- Check that you are in the purchased game rather than the demo branch.
- Only then consider the developer's version_0.4.1 fallback or a new game; do not overwrite the preserved save to test it.
