The short answer
In demo v1013, perishable food spoils over time, Food Baskets extend freshness, and food left on the Rotisserie can burn. The patch notes describe typical spoilage around 20 minutes per item and baskets preserving food for at least an hour. Treat those as developer-reported demo values, not a launch timer.

No precise rotisserie burn time or per-item preservation table is verified here. Use the current visual and sound cues rather than leaving food unattended for a copied timer.

Bats and scorpions changed in this update
The update replaces direct food drops with harvesting dead bats and scorpions. Bat Carcass and Scorpion Carcass gain Cooking Table recipes; Scorpion Tail becomes a Cooking Pot recipe. That distinction helps explain why looking only for an old dropped food item or using the wrong station can fail.

If food spoils, the patch notes provide a recovery use as campfire fuel. The full list of ingredient quantities, outputs and buff values still needs recipe-by-recipe verification.
- Inspect the ingredient and choose a recipe at the appropriate available station.
- Stay near food on the Rotisserie and respond to its ready cue.
- Move food you are keeping into a Food Basket where available.
- Check the meal effect before eating for an expedition.
