01 / Field notes
Read the invitation as advertising
The introduction promises wonder while insisting that performers are valued and the circus is a family. Those assurances come from the show’s own presentation. Read an individual poster and its accompanying narrative before deciding what the promise means for a particular performer, visitor, or period in the circus’s history.

Two complementary formats
The hub’s format guide offers both circus posters and pages from a fictional book about the menagerie. A poster supplies the sales pitch; a book extract can complicate it with narrative detail. The collection also distinguishes a named canon from other tales, so connected stories need not be read as one consistent chronology merely because they share the circus.
