Animal signs, life zones and your hunting dog

The developer’s description of tracking and the latest multiplayer dog fix.

Early Access · default 0.4.1.209789 / experimental 0.5.0.209722 · Updated 2026-09-13

The short answer

The dog can search for animal signs, help find active life zones and follow blood from wounded animals. The developer says bonding and use improve its reliability.

Choose the right tracking job

Looking for signs, locating an active life zone and tracking a wounded animal are different jobs. Record which command or cue you used when writing a report. The FAQ does not give an exact skill-growth rate, guaranteed tracking distance or universal training schedule.

Track Blood in multiplayer

Experimental 0.5.0.209722 fixes a client-side inability to use Track Blood. If that is your symptom, include whether you were the host or client and which branch was running. The patch does not establish that the same fix is on default.

A field note that can be reused

Suggested fields: reserve, species if identified, sign type, shot location if relevant, dog command and outcome. Describe an uncertain species as uncertain. These notes support later verification without turning one encounter into an unsupported general rule.
