The short answer
The free 2nd Chapter demo covers the Prologue and Chapter 1. Choose your intended platform, update the trial and retain its save. Finish 1st Chapter first if you want to avoid its ending spoilers.
Before you start
- A PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 or compatible Windows PC
Choose the correct platform
| Your system | Demo to look for |
|---|---|
| PS5 | Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Demo on PlayStation Store. |
| Switch / Switch 2 | The Nintendo Switch demo. It runs on Switch 2 through backward compatibility. |
| Windows PC | Download the demo from the game’s Steam listing. |
Set up a file worth continuing
The publisher estimates about ten hours. A hands-on reviewer took substantially longer with optional content; it is not a timer or completion target. Viewer and Movie modes are absent from the trial.
- Check whether you already have 1st Chapter clear data before starting; the demo can recognise it for a costume bonus.
- Choose settings you can comfortably read and control, then create a manual save after the opening.
- Work through the tutorials before trying to optimise a party. The trial is long enough to revisit combat and optional activities.
Read the date for your storefront
The official worldwide launch date is September 17, 2026. The Steam listing checked on September 12 displays September 16. We retain that discrepancy rather than invent a universal unlock hour. Check your own library when planning to resume.
The full-game platforms are PS5, Switch, Switch 2 and Steam. A Switch demo on Switch 2 does not establish the native edition’s performance.
