“Game Save Failed”: what PC hotfix 5.00c fixes

The confirmed fix

CD Projekt Red released 5.00c on October 1 for Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net and Xbox Play Anywhere on PC. The saving/loading fix concerns special characters in the path to Documents. The notice does not name particular characters, promise damaged-save repair or establish a console fix.

Check saving and reloading safely

Keep your existing saves. Use a separate manual save slot for the check so that a failed experiment cannot replace your only known-good save. Kingy has not performed this test.

1. Finish the PC update and record storefront and installed version.
2. Record the actual Documents-folder location, including redirected folders and special characters; do not rename a Windows profile.
3. Load an existing save, create a new manual save in a separate slot, and confirm that it appears in the load list.
4. Return to the main menu and reload that new slot. Confirm the location and recent progress, then repeat after closing and reopening the game.
5. If either save or load fails, record the exact error and timestamp; keep both the original and new slots.

OneDrive reports need a separate diagnosis

A redirected Documents path and a sync problem are different observations. The 5.00c announcement does not diagnose OneDrive permissions, synchronization or conflicts. If Documents is redirected, include that fact in the report; do not disable sync, move the folder or change permissions as a supposed patch workaround.

If 5.00c still fails

Send CD Projekt Red support the PC store, installed version, exact error, Documents-path structure and separate save/reload results. Redact your Windows username from public screenshots. We do not recommend a path-change workaround without a reproduced need and save-preservation procedure.
