Sephiroth: where to find him and how the fight works

The encounter details come from the cited creator videos; none of the four fight recordings inspected shows its difficulty. The separate video confirming the Vision reward is credited below.

Sephiroth waits in Whirlpool Hollow. In The Nerd Stash's video the cursor on the Kingdom of Grandshelt map rests on a spot at sea labelled 'Whirlpool Hollow', and their caption calls it the whirlpool west of Grandshelt. Their airship then hovers over the whirlpool with a Proceed prompt and the 'Whirlpool Hollow' card. In both their run and Sirloin's, the party then stands in an icy cavern under the same card while the game autosaves.

The Nerd Stash's run had a Chapter 5 header, CGInferno's a Chapter 7 header and Sirloin's a Chapter 8 header, so the fight is open by Chapter 5 at the latest. The Nerd Stash says the airship comes after you finish Chapter 4, and Gamer Guru's caption says it unlocks in Chapter 5; we haven't checked either.

Deeper in, a Crystal welcomes you to the Vision Crystal Sanctum. In Sirloin's video it says that a hero no more 'requests that you do battle with him', and the battle with Sephiroth follows its speech; The Nerd Stash's caption says to talk to the Crystal to start the fight.

Square Enix's demo announcement says 'the iconic Sephiroth will be making an appearance in the upcoming game' and that players can find and challenge him for a special reward, without saying where or what the reward is.

1. Fly the airship to the whirlpool marked Whirlpool Hollow on the Kingdom of Grandshelt map and choose Proceed.
2. Walk through the icy cavern to the Crystal and talk to it to start the fight.

Two videos show him at Lv.45 with 250,000 HP and type Humanoid: The Nerd Stash's info card, shown right after a Libra banner, and CGInferno's unit panel. The card's affinities row is empty, and both show a row of ten resistance icons that we haven't matched to names.

The card lists four traits. He 'Has extremely high magic defense.' He 'Parries and counters physical attacks during Masamune in Waiting.' He 'Becomes pressured when hit with elemental weakness.' And he 'Uses more powerful attacks when pressured, but easier to stagger.' It names 'Magicite Cryst', as the game spells it, as his drop, with no rare drop and nothing to steal.

The recorded traits support avoiding physical attacks during Masamune in Waiting. They also describe pressure from an elemental weakness, but the inspected affinity row does not identify an element. This guide cannot supply a verified element or rotation for that pressure condition.

The Nerd Stash recommends being above level 50 in its caption, but its recorded party ends at 0 HP. Sirloin's successful party is Lv.66–67 on the Growth screen, after the fight. That is an example clear, not a minimum starting level: the difficulty is not shown, and Kingy has not tested the encounter.

1. Open Display Unit Info or use Libra to inspect the traits and any affinities your own game has revealed.
2. Hold physical attacks during Masamune in Waiting; the recorded trait says Sephiroth parries and counters them.
3. Check the affinity information in your own run before choosing an element. The footage checked here does not identify his elemental weakness.
4. Use the recorded Lv.66–67 clear as context only; it does not establish a required entry level or tested party setup.

Two result screens differ. Sirloin's settled at 26,000 EXP, 21,450 gil with an Overkill Bonus, 410 MRP with a Stagger Finish Bonus and an X-Potion; MELOO's at 29,000 EXP, 60,000 gil, 468 MRP with a Stagger Finish Bonus, and a Magicite Cryst. MELOO's party was at Lv.99 and Sirloin's at Lv.66–67, and neither video shows its difficulty, so we can't fully explain the gap.

After the fight, in MELOO's and CGInferno's videos, the Crystal says that with you by his side 'there may be hope for him yet', and a card titled 'Fallen Hero Sephiroth' appears. In CGInferno's video the Crystal then says it trusts 'you will wield his power with all the wisdom it is due'. Neither of those videos shows what comes next, but in Gamer Guru's the same card is followed by 'You obtained a vision!' with Sephiroth x1, and a PlayStation trophy, 'Will Crystallized', pops. He isn't among the 25 Visions Square Enix named before launch.

Square Enix's announcement mentions a special reward that players can try to win by finding and challenging him. It doesn't name the reward; the videos show the Sephiroth Vision and the battle's item.
