Pikmin 4 Dandori Academy upgrade and GameShare Battle setup

The short answer

On Switch 2, owners of the full original physical or digital Pikmin 4 have an upgrade-pack route; the full edition includes that base game and pack. A GameShare Battle guest does not need a separate copy: local guests may use original Switch or Switch 2, while online GameChat requires both players on Switch 2. The edition is advertised for November 12, 2026.

Before you start

  • Use the product listing and account region that apply to your copy. These are advertised rules and general guest instructions, not a Kingy gameplay test.

Find your package and Battle route

Use the announced rules to plan your setup. The edition is advertised for November 12, 2026; this check does not verify a playable release or your account.

Choose what you want to do

Playing your own Academy copy, hosting a Battle and joining as a guest have different requirements.

Choices stay on this page. Use the guide checklist to save your preparation checks on this device.

Start with your console and the product you already have

The advertised November 12, 2026 edition has two purchase routes: the full package, or an upgrade pack for owners of the full original Pikmin 4. The original Switch game is a separate, already released product. Its Switch 2 compatibility listing does not mean that Dandori Academy is included free.

Use the exact product title on the listing. A pack is additional content, so check access to the full game before treating a pack purchase as a complete setup. For a physical copy, keep the usable game card available. For a digital copy, check the relevant licence and account; owning a title in principle does not verify access on the console you will use.

A Battle guest has a different purchase decision

For advertised GameShare Dandori Battles, one Switch 2 host supplies a compatible edition session to a second player. The guest does not need to buy a separate game copy for that session. If your only goal is to join a friend’s Battle, check the host and connection first rather than choosing a personal upgrade pack.

The full edition additions require Switch 2. The UK product page separately says its physical or virtual game card can run the original base content on an original Switch, without those additions. This base-game fallback does not allow an original Switch to host GameShare or run Academy.

Choose local wireless or online GameChat for two-player Battles

Pikmin advertises two-player Dandori Battles through GameShare. Keep that game-specific limit: the generic GameShare service’s broader console capacity does not add Battle players here.

The local route can include an original Switch guest. The online route uses GameChat and requires both players on Switch 2. For online play, also check internet, Nintendo Account, Nintendo Switch Online and applicable GameChat, country, account and parental conditions. A matching hardware row is a preparation result, not confirmation of your account or a playable session before launch.

Prepare the guest’s system, then use the appropriate joining path

Shared software access lasts for the sharing session; it does not become an independent game licence. These Battle announcements do not establish Academy sharing or campaign co-op. Nintendo says guest save creation varies by software, so Pikmin guest-save persistence remains unresolved.

  1. Update every participating system to its latest system version.
  2. For local wireless, the generic Nintendo guest instructions start at HOME → GameShare → Join GameShare → A Local User. Choose the host’s name and join the session once it is found.
  3. For online play, join the host in GameChat on Switch 2 and accept the GameShare invitation.
  4. Use the edition’s current Pikmin instructions for starting the host session when available. Its exact host menu, story requirements and Battle unlock steps are not established by these generic guest instructions.

Plan Academy access without assuming all stages arrive at launch

The Japanese Academy pages plan 72 stages over one year, in twelve batches of six. Earlier distributed stages remain available to challenge, including after distribution finishes. Receiving Academy stages and participating in official exams require an internet connection under the Japanese advertised rules.

The Japanese overview describes new tasks on the first Monday of each month. That general schedule does not establish the first launch batch, its installed contents, a server timezone or a download clock. Use the available stage list when the edition launches; do not plan on 72 immediately.

The UK page describes Friday–Sunday exams, an ordinary weekly exam attempt and unlimited practice. The Japanese detailed page adds retry tickets for re-examining the same stage: one monthly ticket, plus one per five practices, with up to five practice-earned tickets per month. That exception makes an absolute worldwide “one attempt only” rule unsafe. Confirm your edition’s current exam screen and regional rules before using an attempt.

Japan explicitly requires Nintendo Switch Online for leaderboard use and receiving HOME user icons. This does not, by itself, establish a membership requirement for every exam or all practice. The ticket name, expiry, carry-over, quota scope and reset clock outside the stated Japanese details remain unverified.

Keep your save and launch checks separate from the package decision

An upgrade route is not a save-migration guarantee. Nintendo’s general system-transfer guide describes purchased games and certain save data, but it does not settle Pikmin edition continuity, Academy unlocks, backward save compatibility or guest progress. Keep your existing save until the applicable Pikmin instructions explain that transition.

November 12 is the advertised edition and upgrade-pack release date. Recheck the applicable regional listing for actual availability and then the installed content. Neither this preparation tool nor a prelaunch listing confirms a usable launch build, a first stage batch or a working multiplayer session.
