Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake: purchase and optional-feature requirements

The short answer

Choose the Nintendo Switch 2 remake listing, offered in physical and digital formats in the US. The exact US Zelda 40th Anniversary console excludes a game, so plan a separate game purchase. ZELDA NOTES uses the Nintendo Switch App on a compatible smart device and requires no Nintendo Switch Online membership; Australia specifies an account and persistent internet for that app service. Cloud saves have a separate paid-membership requirement in Nintendo Australia’s listing. Nintendo advertises the remake for November 5, 2026.

Before you start

  • This guide covers the upcoming Switch 2 remake and attributed US, UK and Australian Nintendo listings checked October 1, 2026. Kingy has not played or installed the remake.

Start with the Switch 2 remake listing

Check the system field before choosing a game. Nintendo US identifies this release as exclusive to Switch 2 and offers physical and digital pages. Its November 5, 2026 date is advertised; these source checks do not confirm launch access.

The remake’s revised visuals, voiced cutscenes and jump/dash controls help distinguish it from older editions with the same title. An older N64 or 3DS copy, or access through a classic-game service, does not establish entitlement to this remake in the sources reviewed here. If an existing purchase is central to your decision, check explicit Nintendo entitlement terms before relying on it.

Choose the game format and check console contents

The exact US anniversary console listing advertises October 29, 2026 and expressly excludes a game. Its earlier hardware date does not provide early remake access. The game page identifies Switch 2 as the platform; it does not require that themed console.

Nintendo UK’s digital terms require a registered Nintendo Account, a linked system with current system software and an internet connection for download, plus enough storage. Its offer follows the account’s country setting. These are UK purchase/download conditions; they do not prove that every part of the game requires a persistent connection.

  1. Open the physical or digital remake listing for the region where you will buy. Confirm that its system is Nintendo Switch 2.
  2. If buying the US Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console, add the remake game separately to your plan. Check another retailer’s bundle contents on its own terms.
  3. For a digital purchase, check your Nintendo Account and download storage before paying. The US digital listing currently estimates 27 GB; allow for that estimate to change.

ZELDA NOTES and cloud saves have separate requirements

Choose which feature you intend to use before buying a membership. Nintendo UK describes the Nintendo Switch App as free and announces OoT support for the November 5 launch. Australia attaches its account and persistent internet notice to that app service. A reader who wants Notes alone can use the explicit UK membership exemption when deciding whether to buy Nintendo Switch Online.

Nintendo’s announced OoT Notes features include an accomplishment record, location-image challenges, a virtual ocarina and a quiz. The smart-device service adds support to the adventure; it is not a phone version of the game. Feature descriptions elsewhere for Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom are separate.

Cloud-save support answers a different question. It does not establish that N64, 3DS or other existing saves can be imported into this remake. Keep an existing-save migration decision pending until Nintendo provides applicable instructions.

Check what an accessory adds before buying it

For ocarina songs, Nintendo UK advertises button controls alongside humming into Switch 2’s built-in microphone. The Australian announcement specifies songs Link has learned. This provides a documented button alternative to the advertised microphone feature; it does not supply exact button mappings or microphone setup instructions.

The virtual ocarina in the phone app is a separate announced feature. Buying a real ocarina is not established as a requirement for button-controlled songs.

Nintendo US advertises extras from existing Legend of Zelda series amiibo and new Young Link and Young Zelda figures coming in 2027 with retro-style masks. Treat those figures as future optional extras when planning for the advertised November 2026 game date. Their exact 2027 availability and reward behavior have not been tested here.
